New project day. 1992 Trek 950
I swung by a coop today and noticed a huge pile of bikes in the back. Pre scrapyard sale. I picked this old thing up for the princely sum of $20. It even came with both Deore LX derailleurs and brakes. Just needs some wheels.
My 1991 990 is a 20” so it has uprights. This is a bit smaller so I’m thinking it is perfect for some drops or maybe a mustache setup I have in the parts bin.

Hard to fathom they'd be scrapping an intact 950. I wonder what bikes they deem worthy of rebuilding.

Ooh, I am looking forward to this because I have a Trek bike in mind that I would like to do similar work to. Does it have huge wheel clearance like the one I have in mind? Will you use 26" wheels?

the only thing i can think is the paint has a some good scratches, no dents though, and the seat post was stuck in pretty damn good. It took a bit of work with a dead blow and PB Blaster, but I got it out.

I will be sticking with 26”. I seem to like 1.5” and 1.75” though there is plenty of room for larger tires.

Good on ya for saving it. I have a DB converted '93 970. One of my fav bikes. It's doing touring duty at the present. I run Schwalbe Big Bens on it (26x2.1)..it feels like a big road bike. Fun bike to ride and surprisingly fast. The '92 has a shorter top tube (as does my 93). From 1994 and up the top tube got longer by about 1.5cm(if memory serves..).
