Am I working too hard? 160 bpm avg?
#26
Banned.
I was able to average 180 bpm in one hour ride peaking at 210 but not sure if that is normal / common at my age of 43. My calculated MHR should be at 187.
I only do it when temperatures are low enough. At summer temps, I avoid it due to risk of heatstroke.

Just so you are aware, your max HR is not trainable i.e. it doesn't increase as you get fitter. To all intents and purposes it's a fixed hard-wired number. You just haven't found your personal limit yet! There is also a very wide variation in max HR among athletes at the same fitness level. One guy could have a max HR of 220 and another down at 180 or less with identical fitness/performance. So you can't really compare yourself to others in this regard. They are personal numbers. What you will notice as you get fitter is a lower resting HR and lower HR for a given perceived/measured power output. So you might for example be putting out 200W with a HR of 170 bpm and then after some training find that you can produce 200W at 160 bpm. That's a very simplified example as HR can be affected by many variables on a given day, but that's the basic idea.

Their last post was in 2013.

Though I suppose if you get them actively participating here again, then that'll be a good thing.
Edit....
Gosh I embarrassed them so much they deleted their post that provoked this comment. I should have quoted it I suppose so it'd be obvious what I was blathering about!
