Carbon bars + Track Grips

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

1. You don't use the tops or the ramps?

Drop bar hand positions | BikeGremlin

2. This only works on handlebars with internally routed cables, right?

mmm - I think all interally routed flat-top carbon road bars are meant to have bare 'tops' - the potential loss of grip there is definitely a compromise , but that's been a trend for a while and isn't unique to my setup -

I don't ride on the 'ramps' on my own road bike, and on this particular super-short-reach bar, there is barely any ramp area to speak of anyway

here's the same setup I have on my personal bike (different carbon bar):

Well I, for one, think it's better than tape in every way.

Interesting idea. I had some track grips on a bike a long time ago. They were super comfy.
What handlebars are those? Specialized Aerofly?

cool - I almost went with colored grips instead of basic black - in my opinion, road bike manufacturers need to come up with something better than bar tape -
