That is a great group to match up with the era and bike.

According to the Vintage Trek site, Superbe was the group for the 760. I've been collecting Superbe Pro parts over time and have a mix of Pro and non Pro ready to go, including two sets of Pro hubs. To complete the Pro group, I would need a post, brake calipers and headset. I have Superbe BB and calipers. Likely will stick with Cinelli for the cockpit and American Classic or Campy NR for the post. Tubulars are part of the recipe along with a Brooks.

Be sure to keep us updated on your progress. The Trek 760 is a fine bike and an interesting slice of Americana.

The only Superbe parts on my '86 Pro Series are the pedals. Pretty obvious my BB shell has an '84 braze date but used '85 dropouts (internal cable routing on chainstay side) and the '86 paint job being the last year of the 760. On mine, they were clearing out frames and components to make room for the aluminum revolution.

The 760 had a short but bright run. And we have them.

I was recently in Madison and picked up this frame for cheap! I'm excited to build up this frame as a daily rider!

I really really like that color!

Are your plans to get it on the road? You will love the ride they give. Mine is one size under my fit but is perfect for taking out on a sprint along our shoreline. Maybe a longer ride is in the plans this summer.

I'm 54 but really want to keep this one intact. The paint is unbelieveable. There is just one nick in the paint and looks new. Then there is the history of the bike. Yours looks nice, though. Love the color.

OK, first post on this site, but I've been lingering for a while. Here's my '84 Trek 760. I had it repainted, scrounged around for Superbe parts for a while, and finally built it last week. My first real bike was a Trek 760 in the mid 80s, and I was hoping after rebuilding one, that I would magically become 22 again. It didn't work. Going to ride Eroica CA on it in April.

The more you ride the younger you become. proof is the 70 something woman who passed me the other day on redwood highway on the way up to grizzly peak.

very nice! this thread has made me start looking for a trek myself...

Great color choice for the repaint

There was a guy in Palo Alto selling a 58cm Trek 760 frameset - not sure if it's still out there, or if that's your size. I almost bought it, so I might have his contact info if you were interested.

Welcome to the forum. Good job on the build! When I ride mine it makes me feel younger if nothing else. The 53/13 cranks on some spirited speeds.

Cheers, OldsCool. I swapped the 42 chainring with a 38. My original Trek 760 had a 42/52 with a 13-18 freewheel. But I lived in Bloomington IN. The hills are rollers, mostly. It's a different story where I live now, and I have a different set of legs.

You picked a dandy to ride at Eroica....and a good gearset by the sounds of the climbs that await.

Thanks, plonz. I obsessed over the choice for only a month or so-kind of a blue-grey. Pretty good for me. It's powdercoated with a couple of clearcoats on top.

$600 does seem steep but I can speak from personal experience that you cannot acquire and build one with this level of componentry for this price.

went and saw it this morning on the way to work. he said he was pretty sure he had the original (?) leather saddle. its in good shape but not a garage queen- seen some miles which is not a bad thing at all! I can't be spending that sort of dosh right now though- too many other bikes and I am in no hurry. better to wait for one 60cm!

anyone else interested I could help facilitate.

very cool color in person.
