Another unexpected purchase, the Fausto Coppi Lugano 53 in Columbus Genius

Good morning everyone
An expected purchase at the right price ,James Dak is partially to blame for this (laughs and just kidding ). A 1995 Fausto Coppi Lugano 53 in Columbus Genius, manufactured by Masciaghi in the mid 1990s. Fillet-brazed frame. Internal brake cable routing along the top tube. Provision for two water bottles. Tecnociclo rear drop outs. Chrome fork crown, right chain stay, drop outs and braze-on for the front derailleur. Some paint chips Super tight geometry for fast and confident cornering and responsive handling. I wanted one of those back in the day,saw one in dark blue and bought it. I don't know if the fork is threadless or not, so things that will need to be bought will be a headset, then an italian bottom bracket,a fausto coppi seatpost and the transmission will be of course DA 7800 so will be the brakes, wheels I have a set for it and tires will be Continental.Saddle, I haven't chosen yet, stem will be the ITM Goccia and bar ITM Supertraining Europa and pedals will be Look.
So now place for pics:

Very nice - my guess is that will make a stiff, go fast bike! A few years back I had a same era Coppi in Genius or Brain with carbon stays and fork. It was yellow and blue, too small for me. Pretty sure I sold it to someone here but can’t remember who.

With shimano DuraAce 7800 and a pair of Cosmic Pro or Expert, it will be a blast for sure.

Instant reaction to the first photo: that frame belongs in the Museum of Modern Art, in the same room as the Ferrari. Absolutely beautiful.

That was me. I built it up with a really nice Nine speed Shimano Ultegra parts kit and some stiff training grade wheels. It was exactly as you described. A stiff, go fast bike with is a very aggressive riding position

I enjoyed it for a couple of years and then started trying to pare down my collection and was able to pass it along to Robbietunes. At the time I foolishly thought “ how many road bikes that serve the exact same purpose does a guy really need?“

I’ve came to my senses since then.

Always happy to perform my role as an influencer and enabler!

I won't even mention the little discussion about the other bike being your last project......

Nice color, and with just a little brightwork on the frame.

But I saw the topic containing "Coppi" and "53" and was expecting a much older bike! Wrong expectations!

True but I think I will buy and focus on spare parts mostly from now. I have an enough big selection of bikes but I don't have space to accumulate much more bikes . My goal is upgrade my Raleigh, upgrade my Peugeot, have the CT Wallis built, have the Vetta built, have the Coppi built and my Jamis MTB built. You can't do every project at the same time.I have already two upgrade projects and four build projects in the pipeline, that is more than enough.

I'm going to cast a dissenting vote here and say it looks threadless to me. I see the difference in shade on the steerer, but I don't see threads, and it looks to me like the steerer is much longer than it would typically be for a frame of that size with a threaded fork.

Either way, great score! I have one of these in yellow and I really enjoy it. I've just always thought it was a shame that's they couldn't get Coppi's name on the frame in a few more places.

Great looking frameset! What brand is it?

Guess these statements are kinda out the window at this point:

I assumed it to be a threaded fork, but I sure cannot see any threads, even with zooming the picture. That surprised me. I sure do like the frame set, very nice blue, and chrome/silver and blue always go well together. IMO, pretty much and hue of blue.

I think it is threadless too, I will have to see when I receive it. Yet the seller confirmed me by message that it was threaded but I don't think it is as well. If threadless, then a Chris King blue headset will be my choice if not I will look for a Shimano 7400 threadless headset,3T 1 Corsa Stem or 3T Forge Ahead Stem, bar will be either 3T Forgie bar or 3T Prima bar or 3T Podium bar

Neither can I but I have some ideas about the headset stem that will go on it as well as which headset I will choose for it

At the bottom part of the steer tube that can be seen, I can see where I believe the top of the head set was seated. Since there is no headset on the head tube, the fork crown is sitting higher than it would with the bottom cup mounted, and no cup on top. I think that is giving the impression that the steer tube is longer than it actually is, but still longer than usual. I looked very closely again, I see no threads. Depending on the set up the OP wants that could be a good thing. In total agreement, it is a nice pick up, either way.

The coppi arrived and it isindeed a threaded 1 inch fork, condition is excellent however the bottom bracket cable guide is missing and despite the seat post is a 27.2,I have troubles to push it deeper inside the seat tube, tomorrow,I am going to my bike tech and see how it can be fixed. Headset will be a stronglight X14
