Exclamation Broken Axa Defender

kia ora koutou, Hi from NZ
I just broke the axa defender lock by pulling the key out (when it was supposed to stay in while it was unlocked) now i cant get the key back in. Has anyone else had this problem or got any ideas on how to fix?

If it were me, I'd be doing two things pretty much at the same time.
  1. call some local locksmiths and see if they can do anything for you.
  2. send a email or call support for the Axa Defender.

I'm hoping this lock is not around the bike and a phone pole.. else I'd be renting a good grinder.

There is another thread here that the OP hasn't bothered to reply to, with most of the same suggestions as this thread.

https://www.bikeforums.net/bicycle-m...-defender.html

The lock mounts permanently to the bike, and the key is supposed to stay in when the lock is open, and comes out when it is closed.

Pretty sweet setup, but not frequently used here in the USA. Mom has a much older version purchased in Italy in the early 1980's.

Customer Support should have some help.

We all know the now-30-years-old story of a Kryptonite bike lock model being opened with a Bic pen body. Not a popular urban tale in America (because the locks themselves are quite rare) but some models/production years of the Axa frame lock can be opened with a key blank.

Can I suggest replacing it with an Abus?

https://www.abus.com/uk/Mobile-Secur...ks/Frame-Locks

The Abus is available in key-retaining and non-key-retaining versions.
