Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I can dig it. What's the thing on the back of the saddle?

Is it worth a damn? Seems like it wouldn't catch much that far from the tire.

^I got one that's about the same size. Those things do pretty much what they say, the seat of your pants stay clean but the back of your jacket or shirt will still get dirty.

My Atala, same as last year, and the year before. Should have taken the saddle cover and arse saver off before the pic.

In memorium: Recycled at the end of 2015 due to injury. Gotta get another townie

I have one of those a$$ savers, and it does exactly that. Offers little coverage for your back or other parts. It does help keep the underside of the saddle clean however.

Just finished putting this together. Haven't ridden it yet except around the block. Still needs more work, like lengthening the chain. This is my first SS/FX. The red inspired me to go with the patriotic color scheme.

Just swapped out the fork. Better geometry, tighter clearances, and looks kind of cool. Couldn't pass on an awesome craigslist deal.

Not sure if I'm going to paint it or leave it the titanium color. More amazing garage photos.

They are great for places like LA where it rarely rains and fenders are pointless. I keep one on me during the summer incase random rain happens.

Is that a good or bad thing? Don't know a lot about this fork.

Well, it was good enough for Sean Kelly.

I don't know about their forks, but i did ride a Vitus frame once and I remember how light it felt. I thought it was nice, a bit flexy but not bad at all. They were super expensive in my day.

Sorry, I realize this doesn't help you at all.

A good thing silly! The Vitus 979, where your fork came from, were as popular as CAAD10's are today back then for good reason.

Here is the little folder I have been working on, got it as a Black Friday special at my LBS.

Upgrades:
Ergon grips
Jagwire brake cable
"Deep" Vee wheelset
It is now a fixed gear which replaced the coaster hub.
Vuelta crankset (144mm BDC)
SPD type pedals
Seatpost with built in pump
Biologic saddle
Surly chain tug
