Charging Garmin Varia lights: On or off bike?

Charging Garmin Varia lights: On or off bike?
Just got the rear Varia radar light and the front Varia (UT800) light installed–I didn't do it so definitely need to ask.
I understand I can charge the lights on the bike. Am doing so right now. It was kind of awkward getting the MicroUSB into the slot. So I'm wondering if it is easy to take the lights off to charge them. I looked and couldn't tell how to do that. And there is nothing coming up on Google.

The Garmin UT800 mount is a slot and pin like GoPro. Unscrew the pin, pull it out, then pull the light straight up out the mount.
The radar is the standard Garmin lock. Twist it 90' and pull it toward you.
