Says closing at the end of the year. Does this increase the value of the Stronglight chain ring in missing link bag that I’ve had in my bottom drawer for about 30 years or more? Way more. It’s from when I needed a lower gear on my PX 10.

Really sad.

Well, that is the link I was missing. Thanks.

Well, sh*t. This is a big loss. I've been going to them, off and on, since the mid-70s when they were on Lower Sproul Plaza on the UC campus. I now live about 3/4 of a mile from them now. I live about the same distance from where Velo Sport used to be on MLK Way; gone the way of the Mohicans. Talbot's in San Mateo stopped being Talbot's a long time ago. Cupertino Bike Shop closed this year. Livermore Cyclery became a Trek company store, so it's still there, but it simply is not the same without the Howards running the place. Clarence and Barbara Witt and their Hayward store, Witt's, is long gone. So many of my old haunts have disappeared.

This getting older ting sucks. Of course, not getting older sucks a lot worse, at least for now . . . .

Speaking of Livermore, have you been into "My Buddy's bike shop"?
I was doing some work across the street at the Ace Hardware and wandered in check it out.
My mistake. As a classic and vintage kinda guy, they are not geared towards my (pardon the pun) style of bike or riding.
It's a weenie world.
The kind of shop you'd enjoy (I do) is Oakdale cyclery if you get inland a bit. It's a hand me down shop.

I don't remember TML being a Co-op when I first went there about 1984.
I lived on Bonita St - also about half way between TML and VS... but MLK was Grove back then.
Met Eddy Merckx at TML - he signed my shoulder sling; it was announced in California Bicyclist... also gone.
Bought my first car rack (Yakima) at TML and the guy helped me attach it to my old Escort (5-speed MT)... gone.

WTF!! When my workshop was at the end of Shattuck x Rose ,until the local Tweakers started scoping it out and I had to move, I was in there every other day. Using their tools in the back, checking out the recycling and picking brains. Never treated me like a fool no matter what the question and saved my Campy crank that had thread smashed/ stripped when I recovered it from aforementioned scum........If they are having trouble surviving in Berkeley your LBS is going the way of DT shifters !!

I noticed some changes at the Pedaler. I'm guessing it will sell out to a bigger store at some point.

Damn.

But all bike shops are ephemeral. Treated right, the bikes they sold are eternal.

This was my LBS for six years, and I got my second touring bike there.
