Fair Price for a Soft Ride Bike...
What woulld be a Fair Price for a Soft Ride Bike...
I'm only asking because one popped up on the local Buy and Sell and I'm tempted.
Asking $1700 Canadian.(about $1270) Indoor trainer is included.

That looks steep to me, but I am not super familiar with the various models/specs. I have seen quite a few here for sale in LA for substantially less. A quick looks at ebay shows a bunch of option for much less money, again maybe not same model/carbon wheels etc. I would do a little more research before pulling the trigger on this one.

Something is going on with this one. I would stay away.
Stem looks odd and not original. Sora shifters mounted in a bizarre position with too much housing. Saddle is an odd choice for this frame.
Spinergy Rev-X wheels have a bad rep. The carbon delaminates and the wheel gets trashed.
Wondering if a lot of original components were stripped and the frame rebuilt with whatever was on hand.
If you're looking for a Softride, you can do much better.
Edit: Looks like the original stem and saddle in the first pic, and replacements in the next three. Also looks like the bars were taped over from the first pic - not retaped, as you can see the original color tape sticking out underneath.

This is what a buddy of mine bought back in the late 80s. Worked out for me as he sold me his Paramount for a good price, which I still have to this day.
I lost track of him over the years. Doubt he still has the Softride. I think I got the better half of the deal.

Seems expensive to me. There seems to be a small demand for these out there.
I've had an earlier one with the more traditional tubed frame for sale locally for quite awhile now. It get's no nibbles despite a full breakdown off all the money I put into it.
I did buy the same style frame with a replacement fork and beam about two years ago for something like $200 as a point of reference.
Like others the build really pulls the value down for me.
All that said though, these are amazing bikes on the road. Mine does not stir my soul like some of my other bikes but is it the fastest of all the bikes and riding it on rough chipseal is truly a joyous experience.

I have an aluminum Power Curve and a custom Columbus lugged example. The Power Wing was the top of the line frame, but after the UCI banned these for competition the company went under. They are interesting bikes, but I picked up mine for peanuts as they are considered weird.
