Are white shoes still the thing in 2023?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Buying a new pair of Lakes. I've been wearing white for a few years and just curious where the state of fashion is these days.

I’ve hedged my bets with a pair of shoes that are white on front half and black back half.

According to Billy Johnson they are. However,...................if you go with black you could put some spats on and be both stylish and more aero. Win-win.

The risk is always there, so is the look of white road shoes.
if I had the opportunity to grab a white pair, Yolo, I'm doing it.

White shoes are great and all, but that means you need to wear white socks and thats when it goes to hell.

The burden of cycling studliness comes along with white shoes.

I have two pairs of the same model shoes, one in black, one in white. I didn't notice any appreciable difference in my speed wearing them.
Of course, it could be that one pair seems to have a left shoe in black, and a right shoe in white, while the other pair is the opposite.

Really? We're worried about 'fashion' in cycling shoes now?

It is a personal thing, I dislike white cycling shoes, but I like white socks. Even with grease stains. I do have a pair of Bont Riot that have a good bit of white with the black. And I like lace up shoes. I cannot figure out why white socks would be necessary with white shoes.
When I was in junior high, a long time ago, one year the popular combo was white sneakers with black socks. The next year, it was black shoes with white socks, with pants that were 3 or 4 inches shorter than the person's inseam. And the shoes had about 2 inch high heels.

Since I ride vintage bikes, nothing but black shoes for me. Running shoes/socks for running/cycling however, is all about being bright and loud. There's no matchy matchy that goes on in running with the shoes and the rest of the kit.

There now seems to be more variety of colour in the pro peloton than pre-pandemic when it was mostly white. Still plenty of white shoes on show though.
