Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, it's one of those descents that I don't even want to think about what happens if I go over the edge. Fast and technical too, it averages 12% for 1.5 miles.

There are some cool trees around here. I'm a bit of a nerd about trees, so I'm always on the lookout for large or interesting trees.

Zim Smith trail in Ballston Spa NY.

looking south towards Underpass Road.

Very unusual to have nobody in sight, this trail is almost always crowded on a nice day.

I'm lucky to live nearby, there are a handful of epic climbs in the vicinity of this ride...unfortunately, only this one is actually open(snow.)

West side. I actually live on the west slope, but it's a short drive over the hill to the east side climbs...I'm not far from Tahoe. As you probably know, the climbs/roads are definitely different between the 2 sides.

a total of 65-70 miles ridden. altitude kicked my you know what. soil was all granitic and trees were all alpine (lean and mean).

Unfortunately I have not been able to stray very far from the house. But I did a watercolor of a picture I found on the net. I don't know who took the picture but it has stayed with me so I put it to paper...

Does an asphalt path count as a road, since it is a road for cyclists, and empty?
