I have a black chrome 1987 High Sierra that I picked up last year. It is one of favorites, a really nice riding bike. So, when another '87 showed up on FB Marketplace today for $20, I didn't hesitate to go grab it. Equally as dirty and neglected as my first one, but appears to be in good shape overall.

Thank you for that offer. I have a set of 42 cm Specialized bars that I am planning on replacing the existing upright bars with. Now I just need to source a set of Superbe levers to complete things…

Not sure. Current 87 has a rear rack and front pannier racks. Gave the new 87 a wash today. It's more original than my other 87. It will be a while before it finds it's way onto the repair stand though, a few other projects are ahead of it.

23" Novara Arriba was on top of the pile today. Unfortunately I wasn't there when it was unloaded, so what started the day as mint frame has numerous scratches and a forgivable dent on the top tube. For my purposes, I got a mostly complete Deore LX group and wheelset for $10.

spent a couple hours sorting through a fair ton of scrap after finding a bundle of spokes and a brake shoe on the top. This was on the bottom of the pile.

Here's the salvaged Hardrock. It's a bit small for me, but the enormous rise on those bars makes it still feel comfortable.I've commuted to work a couple of times on the bike and it is a fun ride.
I like the Suntour Accushift shifters. It's my first experience with Suntour thumbies. They're a bit hard shifting toward the easier gears (and I suspect the hard shifting could be the source of the damage on the left shifter?) but new cables/housing might fix that. When shifting to higher gears they have a nice crisp feel and shift accurately, true to their name.

I Found these with the cotter press. Its some sort of thread chaser with 16 different thread cutting options. It says OTC 7402. The cone on a stick is from some sort of tool.

This stuff was there amidst a bunch cheap stripped aluminum frames and culled rims. I left a bunch of no name aero rims... The racks are Vetta and Jim Blackburn.

Sitting in a guys yard for a while. A ‘college bike’ survivor. Originally wanted it gone for $10 (gave him more
). Came with an interesting Panasonic AL 7000 (not a ton known about them).
In any case, the Allez is nearly completely original (even original wheelset) and only really missing the left Shimano 600 lever and the front brake caliper. No biggie, will find those at the co-op.
Stem seized, seatpost seized, crank dustcap seized and stripped. But it’s my size!
Can’t call this whole thing a ‘labor of love’ without the ‘labor’ part.
Honestly besides stuff being locked up I’m astounded at the condition. Little rust, worst paint is on the sides of the forks and on the front of them over the ‘Specialized’ stickers which protected the paint. There is one teeny tiny ding that I couldn’t even see until I sighted down the tube with my eye next to the frame. If I stared straight at the tube in the sun I still can’t see it.
It can never beat the Huffy (of course) but will be fun to melt that seatpost out while I wait for a cotter press for the Ted Williams Sport Racer cranks. Got an idea for removing (and saving) that original Specialized stem, which is how I got the frozen stem out of my PX-10.

Found a Vainqueur made in Portugal at the scrap yard today.

I have the post end in a vise right now with the bike upside down. I twisted back and forth as much as I was comfortable with, and no budgie.
Now, due to the fact that the dust cap is frozen, I haven't yet pulled the cranks. Once I do, I'm debating...penetrating oil? Ammonia? Or full blast...lye?
Used lye before, totally comfortable with it. Right now, it is sort of my go-to at the moment, simply because it means I bypass yanking and twisting more on the frame.

But it turned out to be their cheapest model. The base is plastic as is the end cap on the barrel. I am guessing this is from before they got bought out by the guy from Zipp.
My other SIlca track pump from the 80s is all metal...
Planning to replace the pump head with a Tanaka (on sale at Soma for $25) and send it off to college with my daughter this fall.

Sort of relevant, today I picked up a used steam cleaner. I tried it out on a grungy scrapyard crankset and it did a nice job clearing off the dirt and grease. I have tried cleaning aluminum components with an ultrasonic cleaner and don't like what it does to anodizing.
