Yeah, I just started doing supra-threshold work this last 3 week block after many months of not. The first workout was tough... but my week two and three (Tuesday) VO2 max intervals were very good. In this next block I'll have more VO2 work every week, threshold intervals and maybe group rides with hammering. I'm going to skip my FTP test this time, but when I test again in 4-5 weeks from now I will expect to see a nice bump, if all goes as planned.

I'm getting Moderna dose two on Sunday 3/7, I'm hoping that I should be ready for some hard work on the bike starting that Wednesday. For that week, (week three), I'm thinking Monday off (likely sick) and Tuesday some light SST or tempo on the TT bike to get back into it.

I won the race to register for mount washington. It's actually on my birthday this year, and looks to be a pandemic induced ITT. Now I just need to stop eating.

Ski day with my son. We were on the chair before 9 and they were picking up the line ropes on our last chair up. Gonna sleep well tonight.

I'd love to do it, but I can feel bad enough about myself without paying $250 to suffer for 75-90mins (or however long it would take someone to go up around 4w/kg) lol It's definitely on the bucket list, though!

I think the jury is still out on HRV and its usefulness for training, but I got the hrv4training app on my phone this past week (it uses the iphone camera to read your HR via your finger). My resting HR each of the past 5 days was 51, 54, 55, 62 (bad night of sleep Sat), 56, but my recovery score is higher today. Anyway, it's all too new, just kind of curious. I finished a week of just Z2 and I'm leaving aside the sustained power build, because it wasn't working out for me, at least not with any good consistency, so I'm doing something a bit different for the next 3 weeks. This may all change after Thursday, if you use trainerroad, you'll want to tune into their podcast, I believe it's highly likely they're going to announce a major new feature

Anyone else have chronically sore legs developing around their 50th birthday. This is some bull***t. Been a thing for about four or five months. Took a week off the bike completely to enjoy the TX natural disaster, get back on, and day 3 my legs just hurt all the time when I'm off the bike. On the bike everything is normal -- legs aren't even tired --- power is great.

I'm 45 now, but the increased soreness is real and I need more days between intensity. I would almost say I can hog on the endurance miles more than ever. Also, I haven't seen anything like the decline I expected over the last 5 years (if anything I've ticked up). Having said that, I'll now lose 20% off my FTP tomorrow.

Not legs, but I have had intermittent lower back pain and stiffness. It will be fine for a few days and for some reason some days I can barely straighten up. It's actually not bad on the bike once I get warmed up, even in the drops.

Sunday, another endurance ride with amazing warm weather but Santa Ana winds from the northeast. It seemed like the wind was in my face the entire ride and kept shifting.

14 hours in the books, probably 12 under Zone 3. I did a pair of 2 1/2 hour z2 sessions on the weekend in ERG and my legs feel fresh. Doing that same volume as a group ride in Zwift trashed my legs.

So I'm adopting an 80/20 plan this season. Boatloads of z2 and only 2 with an occasional 3rd hard sessions a week. We'll see how it goes. I've tried SweetSpot last season I was strong but never fresh. I have the time to do it, and more importantly the patience. Worst case I'll be fluent in Spanish and still suck on the bike (since I watch Spanish TV during these sessions).

I've had a torn left labrum for years which has caused a multitude of issues from a chronically tight and out of place back to nerve issues and multiple muscle tears. If I sleep on it wrong then its terrible. Now I know how to set it in place if it pops out and its a lot better. Once I can get in and have surgery I'm doing it.

My advice it to not always trust that the doctor is right; I've had it for years because several have been wrong.

Wisdom tooth was taken out a few days ago, so I am basically treading water. Hard to eat enough which kinda limits ride length and intensity. Probably back to it in a few more days.

I'm waiting for the next season to come out. It was entertaining trainer material.

(I watched the dubbed version on Netflix.)

Por supuesto.

The first 2 seasons were great, its slid off but its still watchable. My favorite show is probably Elite which is a teeny bopper show in Spain. Right now I'm watching Vis a Vis which is a women's prison show, but like more hardcore than Orange is the New Black. After watching that show, I can understand why some men are abhorred by women, I don't agree, but I get it lol.

We watched the first few episodes with English dubbing, then switched to Spanish audio with English subtitles. My wife and I can "get around" in Spanish, but neither one of us is fluent. I guess if we really wanted to work on our comprehension we'd do Spanish audio, Spanish subtitles.

I spent like 2 months learning how to learn a language, and yeah, Spanish Audio / Subs is always the way to go. Connecting anything to English you end up tuning it out. Its painful though for the first couple hundred hours.

Any particular Spanish language TV shows to recommend? I have seen La Casa de Papel. It was mostly quite good, (but was I was less enthused during the last season or so).

I've had delayed onset muscle soreness my whole life from any variety of workouts - cycling, basketball, weight lifting, running, hiking. This has been since at least high school and I just think it is the way I am. Soreness is worse 2 days after working out worse than the day after, but once I'm warmed up, I feel fine (and generally power or strength seems fine). I think it has increased a little bit since I turned about 50, but it isn't much different.

My back started to get stiff after a lot of riding, or particularly if that is combined with skiing or something like gardening sometime around 40. It has generally gotten worse with age, but has gone down a lot in the last few years with increased attention to strengthening (mostly core work and squats), and stretching (mostly yoga).

I usually go Spanish audio, English subtitles, but I really should try going Spanish subtitles too. I think I'm ready for it if I watch an easy show to follow. Dora the Explorer maybe ?

There's a show on YouTube call Extr@ which is like a really bad Friends for Language Learners. Tons of media and a Flashcard App called Anki (which times it so you don't forget) is really all you need.

There's also Language Learning with Netflix / Youtube which is an Chrome Extension that helps you translate.

My Spanish is not good, and I'm very out of practice. I'm not sure I could keep up while riding the trainer and trying to manage understanding the Spanish.

At the same time, I'm partially deaf and do not wear my hearing aid on the trainer. So, I'd really be struggling if I watched in Spanish. Also, even with shows in English, I have captions on when riding the trainer too to help me keep up - when I am looking at the TV.

Very often I rewatch stuff with my wife because I don't really pay attention to/understand what's going on.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll check these out. I'm mostly using duolingo to learn (as well as practicing with my wife who is fluent in Spanish).
