oopsie but what can you do?
Saw this when we locked our bike up at target. wanted to leave a note but no paper or anything to write with and who knows how long before them came back?
this would be a self build from Amazon. who knows what they would say if you told them?

I think there is an actual safety (and etiquette) point to be discussed here which is getting lost in snark about the quality of the bike. Whether or not I approve of the bike is of no interest to anyone but myself, and I would never express such disapproval at a person riding that bike, The backwards fork, however, is a serious safety concern, and I probably would feel some sort of obligation to warn the presumably unaware rider of that danger. That's going to be true for me whether it's a $75 bike or a $7500 bike.
In all likelihood, the rider of that bike is mystified why the bike is so hard to steer and/or handles so badly. I don't think tactful silence is going to be considerate in this case.

I think I'd probably look for paper and a pen, but I'm not claiming that I wouldn't decide at some point the effort and time needed to do so wouldn't outweigh my sense of obligation. Some of that will obviously depend on whether I'm locking my bike (going into the store) vs. unlocking it (leaving the store). I'd be a lot more likely to find a pen and paper I could use in the store than if I was about to ride off. I certainly would have said something to the person if I saw them by or on the bike.
BTW, I think the likelihood that I'd even notice the backwards fork while locking my own bike is really not very high. Maybe if it was one of a very few or the only one on the rack.

I wouldn’t wait. No idea if the owner is shopping in the store. Also, he or she might be working there (or somewhere else) for many hours to come. I usually have a pen when commuting/running errands. I’d probably try to leave a note. I’m the sort of person who alerts people to backwards helmet wearing. I’ve even turned around and caught up to people to let them know. Once a woman and her child were involved. The child’s helmet was on backwards. It still happens even with rear locking mechanisms. One time a woman said “No wonder it feels so uncomfortable.”
