My wife thoguht I bought a new bike
I had a little accident on my bike a couple of weeks ago so have been using my Tricross while I got my Allez fixed up.
This evening I brought it home and showed my wife and she was convinced I had bought a new bike! (I had not). Then she was convinced I bought new wheels (I had) but I talked her out of that too (well, I needed a new rear wheel due to the accident, so bought a front one too. List of new parts:
2010 Mavic Aksium (that reminds me, I better change my sig)
105/Ultegra brake pads front and rear
New HG50 Cassette and chain.
Bike completely cleaned.
It looks nice and I'm so glad to get back on it. Today's commute home (yeah I know, but I prefered to post in Road forum) was nice and slow while I got re-acquainted with road bike geometry, it felt so good and I felt so powerful, unstoppable, unfathomable.
But alas, it will get dirty once again.

The new Ridley I got was red/white - I actually manage to convince Her that it was my old Streetfire... (ultimately, did tell her, but it was an interesting precedent).
She's actually gotten wise to my camera lenses and realizes that not all big white telephotos are the same, but I think it will be a while before she cottons on to bikes. Gonna make sure the TT bike I get is also red/white/black.

I bought a mtn bike last fri and had it in my computer room for 3 days. And my wife didn't notice it wasn't one of my 2 road bikes. The color was even way different.

stole your bike
My wife's pretty wise on new bike gear so I don't hide things from her but it does get tiring having to justify purchases since some aren't always strictly for practical reasons.

My mom started asking questions when I got my 3rd bike, and 2nd extra set of wheels. Now I ship everything to my place at school or my dad's house.

I keep hearing stories in here saying how a man tries/needs to hide his new bike related purchase from his wife. That's kinda funny? scary? to be honest because my gf always able to find out what's new on my bike (or a new bike) and asked how much I spent on it....again!

As long as you can say that biking is a health related purchase, that it will lower the cholesterol levels, decrease the possibility of strokes, and keep you working till 70 years of age, then she won't mind. But make sure the pot belly never shows.

My wife is on to me now. I would tell her the price of a bike I am buying. But "accidentally" forget to tell her how much the "upgraded" bars, seat post, pedals, wheels cost. Now she always ask - how much is it with all the extra's I am going to buy.

My wife gave me a few hundred dollars, so that I could get my bike. I think that she enjoys the hours that I'm out riding and not bothering her.

Ok so this thread is pretty funny.
I bought a Macbook, idn't tell her for three months, had it nicely hidden unti; one day she needed my car keys and took them from the bag in which... my macbook was discreetly hidden.
Nevermind, I kjust bought an Asus EEE PC. My dad swapped his gold Lexus for a silver one and my wife commented on how clean it looked. That was well funny. Even worse than that, my dad swapped the (he buys loads of Lexuses) an old model Lexus for a new one, same color, my mom didn't notice the difference! It's amazing.
I swapped the 18-70mm lens with a 18-200 Nikkor, she couldn't tell.
This isn't the first time she's accused me of getting a new bike when I hadn't. I done the exact same thing a couple of years ago, stripped the bike down, cleaned it, got it back home, and I got the "Did you just get a new bike?" treatment again.

I bought my ParkPre frame a couple of months ago...and of course, it's pretty tough to hide a frame box when it shows up (not that I was trying to). I took it out of the box and took it in to show my daughter. Afterwards I walked back out past my wife who asked "Is that your new frame?" (duh). I said "Yep" and handed it to her. Her eyes got wide as saucers when she grabbed the 58cm frame and felt how light it was (about 2 lbs?). Then she said "How much was it?". "$350" I told her (ommiting the shipping cost). Thankfully, she was stunned that something so complex and relatively large could weigh so little and so she figured I got a great deal. And then she asked "Are you gonna sell your other bike?". Uh...no. And so we embarked on the whole "Why do you need two bikes" discussion. Now I'm starting to get an itch to add an MTB to my stable...we'll see how that goes.

Lol, true... I've been updating all my bodies recently, and given that I'm taking a break from my photography work, it is a little hard to justify why I need 4 different bodies.
If anyone has a good answer to that question, I am all ears.
Even better would be answer to the question "Why do you need 5 bikes" (road bike, MTB, touring bike, rain bike and rigid MTB commuter - seems ok to me but something gets lost in the explanation).
