Fizik Microtex handlebar tape

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fizik Microtex handlebar tape

Is this stuff cool or what? I just tried some, I'm thinking it's the best there is. Anybody with experience?

I have it on both my road bikes. I don't like it very much, bit I wanted white tape that will stay white.

It does look the best, has a feel like a leather, easy to clean.

I'm a fan of tightly wrapped bar tape, so the Fizik stuff works really well for me. You have to use A LOT of tension when wrapping to keep it from bunching up in tight radius bends though.

I used this briefly when I wanted white tape that wouldn't get dirty. It definitely does not get dirty but I didn't like how slippery it was with even the slightest moisture. I'd rather have dingy white tape than the microtex. Right now I'm loving the specialized roubaix tape.

I hate you guyz... now I want to buy some microtex white/red dual tape to re-wrap my commuter... which has fairly new functional wrap but would look cooler with that new tape...

A little bit harder to wrap compared to other tapes. Needs a lot of tension and the length is minimal, even on a 42cm bar. No adhesive on the back, which is nice.

Love the texture of the tape itself, but this is subjective. I hear the white is easier to clean than many other brands.

It doesn't hold up as well in wrecks as other tapes. There seems to be this white lining in the middle that shows through when it tears, plus a lot more seems to tear when you slide on the pavement that cork-based tapes.

I also really like fizik's bar gel pads under it. Makes it more comfortable, IMO, than cork.

With everything considered it's probably my favorite at the moment.

Why not get the gel version, then?

Also, take into consideration your member title here. Practice what you preach.

Lucky enough to have it come on my bike when I bought it new. Great tape, I'll stick with it.

I like it but........... If you use a color other than white the slightest nick will show the white backing. This part I don't like. Otherwise it's decent stuff.

If I ran White tape I would go with it... I'm not going to use it again if going with another color. Then it's Cenelli Cork.

It is absolutely the best looking tape there is. I will never go back to cork tape. I agree with the lack of padding. Maybe I'll try the gel kit sometime. I don't have a big problem, though...my wrists aren't screaming for cushion.

Not to hijack this thread but how does Fizik Microtex compare to San Marco Lorica bar tape? I've been wearing La Sportiva rock climbing shoes for a while with Lorica uppers and they hold up pretty well, even when wet. It does appear that San Marco has discontinued the Lorica bar tape (any bar tape for that matter).

It is the BEST tape ever! I love the fact that it is so sticky, but easy to clean! Tip: Use clothes washing powder to deep clean any bar tape!
