Yeah, "minty" is an understatement. I have a lugged 730 and a tigged 750 from around that era. Both in great running shape but neither as fresh as yours. Both are awesome to ride. It's fun, when a younger person comments on one, I tell them it was built just down the interstate, their uncle might've worked on it.

These and the Mississippi Schwinns -- hang on to every one you've got, they're a looking-glass into American industrial history.
Yep, there weren't many manufacturers making frames in the US out of American-made steel, Treks and Schwinns (I have a Chicago-built Breeze myself) are historical artifacts in this country.

Bikes: Wow, where to start? A collection of 1980's and early 90's road, touring, and MTBs from the likes of Trek, Schwinn, Cannondale, Fuji, Miyata, Univega, Panasonic, and GT. It has gotten rather out of control.

This could be the most beautiful bike I have landed yet. S/N M5E8B73, so it falls into the weird out of sequence realm according to Vintage Trek Bikes- Information on Steel Road Bicycles made by the Trek Bicycle Corporation, bike. I thought it might be a 710 frame, but it the S/N puts it into the 410 category and from 1980 or 81. It also has Suntour dropouts, which leans towards the Ishiwata tubing instead of Reynolds 531. Obviously it was updated. 700c Matrix rims on Shimano tri-color 600 hubs, 600 crank, 600SIS rear derailleur, Cinelli stem & bars, Selle Italia Turbo saddle, etc. Previous owner said the update happened in 1988.

Looks like your 410/412 here has left em speechless! That ice blue has always been my favorite of the old Trek colors. I've got an 82 412 in that same color, also the big "25 1/2" frame like yours, that I've been riding since the mid-80's and its always been my favorite bike - the geometry seems to strike perfect balance between speed and comfort.

I can relate. I have a mint 90 750 in black and soon after found a 91 that needed some work. The 91 is the one I ride.

Getting the 410 there little by little. Various items removed. New 28mm tires mounted, Clamp mounted water bottle cage installed. This thing has an amazing ride quality.

There is a general love/hate outlook on these types of carbon tubed frames, but it was a hand-me-down from my father. so i decided to use it as a covid19 budget build

'82 950

Just pulled the 950 out of storage and took a quick photo. Going to get it ready for summer riding with some tubulars and fresh bar tape, at least. Might go for some clipless pedals this year too.

New pedals means new shoes? If you use clipless already, go for it!
My vote is with a navy blue tape to pop those panels and head tube. Or, there's always black .

Just out of curiosity- how does that compare to what you remember about the pink Trek 770?

Is this more of your "thing" or is the 770 more in your wheelhouse... so to speak?

The 770 is at least a couple pounds lighter than the 710. First 710 ride impressions are that it’s a bit more relaxed/comfy. But the 770 handles more crisply.

I don’t know if I have a “thing”. 😃

I loved riding the 770. Had a forum member not inquired about it I’d likely still have it. It certainly is unique. But, after having it for a few years I thought I’d let someone else enjoy it.

Currently I have an 86 Voyageur for my touring/randonneuring/meandering rides, this 710 is more a sport touring bike, and next up in the queue is an IronMan.

For those of you who don't already know, let me introduce myself. I am not a photographer. I am not a neat, or clean freak. I have bikes, in order to ride them, caring not(mostly) for how they look, whether the components match, whether(gasp!) the wheels or tires match. I very much do enjoy a nice riding bike. So without further ado, my 1980 Trek 414.

Ishiwata 022 double butted main triangle, with high ten fork and stays. I bought this bike because I'd heard good things about the tubeset and wanted to try it. I am the second owner. I plan to reduce the fleet by half in the coming months and this bike beat out a 89 Ironman for last position. The old Treks just fit me like no other bikes I've ridden.

Shortly I'll post my 1979 Trek 930. The two currently share a wheelset, a thing I will try to remedy as the day goes on.

Full Columbus SL. What a ride! What a fit! The decals are from the wrong era, because that's what the PO had on hand. He did a lot of touching up before turning it over to me and I have more to do, now two years later. I plan to put tubulars on it for the winter season, on wheels laced with Record hubs. I'm going for the full monty. The head badge on this one is screwed on. The head badge on the 80 is glued on.
Finally I got them posted.

There are so many classics popping up for sale the last two months or so. I'm lucky to be in a position to jump on them when I can. People are clearing out their garages! I have this exact 1984 520 in my wife's size, but I never thought I would run across one in my size.

I'm very pleased to know it's getting ridden the way it was intended to. Damn fine riding bike BTW. Also, at that frame size I believe they were using Columbus SP tubing.

Trek 700 something

T

This is a earlyish 80’s Trek 700 something. With assistance from knowledgeable people here I am pretty sure it has a factory repaint and a different fork than when it first shipped. Thanks to Gugie for some work on the forks this is my ride this year. It is a dream!

'700 something'? Have you looked up the serial # on Vintage Trek? It really is a pretty bike.
