'68 Schwinn Mini Twinn
Thought I'd share a new acquisition - '68 Schwinn Mini Twinn tandem. Bought from the 2nd owner. He indicates when they bought it 11 years ago from the original owners, they had it equipped with the two seats in the photos when originally purchased, instead of the banana seats.
It's very clean for an original, some normal wear and tear and patina. It's the red stripe rear coaster brake single speed model.

Rear would have been a banana seat, front was as shown. The shop where I worked back in the '80's had 2 of them for rent, along with 2 "standard" Schwinn tandems.

Actually, I don't recall them having anything unusual on the front seats. The catalog says "Sting-Ray style saddles", which seems to be something particular to the Mini-Twinn. Interesting.

I have a mini twinn in coppertone color. Mine has 2 banana seats, & the front seat is a mini banana seat of sorts, w/ springs. Schwinn made another tandemn w the standard S seats, w same or similar frame, but didnt have the high rise bars.
Gets a lot stares, but not a comfy ride...

Found the correct front seat, looking for a good rear full size 18" banana seat, close to this color if possible (realize pattern won't match) and a sissy bar if anyone has these items available, thanks!

Thanks I realize it's a bit different than yours presently in appearance. The pan and springs are identical to yours, correct? I bought it knowing the handle and cover pattern were not correct.
I thought I'd use it now as-is and then remove the rear bar and have it recovered to match the rear seat.
Let me know if I'm mistaken, thanks.

I think Schwinn only made the "String Ray" looking tandem for one model year. There was another post about one here, like a year ago. Back then just about every bike shop sold many types of banana seats. Cheers

hey folks,
i have a coppertone mini twinn that i started restoring and have neglected...anyway, want to finish the job. I'm looking for a back seat. I found a front mini-banana seat and had it covered some 15+ yrs ago, and it is just as the one pictured by indy racing (i remember sending it off to someone it TX who recovered it w/ correct covering). I'd like to get a back seat to match but don't know where to begin. I don't have an original seat on there now, and would like to get a good reproduction or an original seat.
I am hoping someone can help me. The bike looks nice: it was repainted, chrome cleaned up nicely, rims are in great shape. I'll need to get some tires as mine (original) are weathered beyond use.
Thanks all!
