From 247 to 165 over many years

Yesterday, in my low 80's (age), I weighed 165 lbs. It has taken many years, starting at 247 maybe 35 years ago, but that is the lowest I have weighed since I was about 30 years old. Just slow and steady weight loss.

Good to hear from this former Clyde on his successful loss of weight. I should try to do the same.

How tall are you?

Still riding quite a bit?

At one time I was 6'. Now 5'10.5" (We all seem to shrink). I bicycle, swim ( a lot), , walk, do resistance exercises (weights, etc.) and stretch a lot.

Yes, that was the point of my post. I was and am no longer a Clyde. Perhaps inspiring to someone else a bit overweight?

Yes your are inspiring. I am at least 60lbs overweight but because of my height I probably will always weigh more than 200lbs. At 210lbs my ribs start to show so I don't know how low I can go and still be healthy. We Americans tend to be grossly overweight and I'm right in the middle of that pack. I have lost weight twice but it is hard, hard work and then I reward myself by starting all my bad eating habits again. It is one of the most difficult things I have tried to do. Good for you on keeping up your fitness regime. I follow a walking and bicycling regime. I try to walk an hour a day and ride at least an hour a day. Doesn't keep the fat off but it makes for good leg muscles.

When someone has a struggle with anything, whether it be alcohol, drugs or weight, they're always a "insert catagory here". Regardless of success. Not recognizing that can easliy result in a relapse. Good for you!

@gobicycling what kind of bicycle do you ride at 80? I hope I can still ride when I am your age. My mom had to stop driving by the age of 70 ish. She was not safe on the road.

A good thing about cycling past our "use by" date is that we usually only hurt ourselves. Can be much worse when driving.

Good job...Im sure that getting to 165 and riding has also allowed you to get and remain healthy in your 80s. A role model for us all.

Ive dealt with my weight all my life as well and am in y mid 50s. Giving it another go Ive managed to drop from 238 to about 212ish. Im hoping for around 200 by the summer just slow an steady.
