I'd leave mechanical support cars but eliminate most of the rest. Some officials supervising race only on motorcycles but even that is questionable, simply give them the view of all TV feeds, including cuts that normally don't make it to TV and let them watch is someplace in town.

You have to make it profitable to run races but having so many officials and team support people following is not making money for the race organization anyway (?).

any prior knowledge of the professional cycling forum. don't recall a preponderance of sed threads being moved to the professional cycling for the fans forum but that's another topic...

I blame the "New Posts" device for leaking this time.
And either or both of these as underlying issues that may be losing their edge:
1) the "fans" in "pro cycling for the fans" are a slovenly bunch best kept at a standoff.
2) most discussion and analysis here is sophomoric and overly self-important.
Is the problem that there is a wall? Or that the wall just isn't tall and thick enough?
In short, we have not been doing enough to make this forum impenetrable to newcomers and undesirable to real enthusiasts or, dare we even ponder, real [former?] pros. We really need to re-evaluate being so welcoming and slightly less than completely obtuse. Bump the freak factor up to a Bootsie Collins level.
Maybe we should all sneak in a few more bizarre deep cut old fogey references. That'll send the more worthy folks back to the cyclingnews forums with its carefully curated thread structure. Over? It's not over.

I like variables and seeing how risk is managed. Ride lighter tires, maybe go faster and increase the chance of a flat. That kid of stuff makes being an arm chair manager more fun. I think this sport needs more spectators that sponsors pay for and as such having something we can all debate - the tires, the attacks, the brakes etc. make this a more watchable sport.
The teams create more variables. They might fix some race issues, but they create other ones. Watching bike swaps - planned or due to mechanical is an art that, like auto racing pit crews is all part of the team winning.
