I’ve been steadily working on my cycling conditioning for over a year and own a couple of pretty nice bikes, I’m no stranger to physical activities or sports but this is really torquing my shorts.
I put in A LOT more cycling miles than the gf but when we ride flats she can put 200 yds between us at any moment she wants. I don’t know how she does it she’s just..... fierce on demand. Today I was riding my all carbon Orbea Orca with clipless pedals and watched her smoke me on an aluminum frame Marin Vicenza on flat pedals. I don’t know what would happen if she used clipless.
I hate her but she scares me 🤣 on a serious note, it does puzzle me how she can do this but it’s pretty cool to watch it happen.

Does she do pilates or barre? If she's lighter and has a better general fitness she'll have it over you. There's more to bicycle speed then just riding which is why I've started in the last month to put more emphasis on workout programs and picked up a weight group off the craigslist free section.

..yah..my GF does the same thing...sigh. She's younger, weighs 95 lbs less, and is MUCH cuter than me..so it's fun to watch..for as long as I can see her at least.
I make sure she has very nice, well adjusted-fitted-maintained equipment..so I help out in some way..
...and I fix all flats.

My GF is 5'3" and 135 lbs. She's a total gym rat who used to go to the gym everyday. She does spin class, yoga and some sort of thing called "Body Pump." She's also 8 yrs. younger than me. I, OTOH, am 5'9" and 185 lbs on a good day. My old college football weight but distributed...uh...differently. In the off season I go to the gym about 3 days/wk. I lift and infrequently get on my rollers. In the early season she just smokes me on climbs. On downhills and in corners I have a distinct advantage. On the flats I'm faster but she knows how to hold a wheel. In the wind I'm like the proverbial barn door. Yesterday we did a 31 mile ride that was pretty hilly and all the climbing came near the end of the ride. It was also windy. I felt strong and was staying close... up until the hills. Even though I was pushing the wind to do it. The week before we did this same ride in the same kind of wind. It was tough. I manged 13 mph and she did 13.6 mph. This time I upped my game to13.6 mph but she came in at 14.6 mph. I just call this time of the year "chasing Vicki."

Thank goodness you don't use the metric system. Then she'd be able to put 200 meters between you at any moment, which would be 8.33% more space between you.

Just do your best to keep up and enjoy the view, There is a reason why even though I beat her when looking at race times we've done together I still don't mind losing during training sessions.
