Garmin Forerunner 745
I have been using my Garmin Forerunner 745 as a bike computer. The watch works well enough but I have a couple of questions. I am hoping someone here can help me out.
1. If I ride with my Edge 520 on at the same time, at the end of the ride the recovery times are WAY off/different. My 520 will suggest a recovery of 18 hours. My 745 on the other hand will suggest 2 days. Any idea why such a vast difference?
2. I have my 745 set to calculate FTP during my rides. I thought once I set a personal record, the FTP would only update if that FTP number is beat on a ride. This doesn't seem to be the case. Twice now on rides I have had my 745 tell me I had a new FTP record, even though the FTP was lower than what is already recorded in the watch. Any idea what's going on?
Thank you for your help.

Are you sending the data to different Connect accounts or something? 🙂
Can you see the FTP setting in each device? Are they calculating the same IF and TSS?
I think the recovery is based mostly on HRV. Without knowing more I'd be inclined to better trust the watch since it knows about your sleep, background HR patterns, and other activity. Which was closer to the truth?
Do you have the setting enabled to share data between the devices?

Are the two devices using the same garmin connect account? If you set up a different profile for both devices then maybe something like your weight, max HR or min HR or some other piece of data is off.
Also the Forerunner if you wear it constantly knows more about you.
But this is the kind of thing you ought to call Garmin and ask. Then you can share their answer with us. Probably something logical to it. Even if it's just that they calculate things differently.
Don't think that recovery means you shouldn't ride for that long.

Seattle Forrest and Iride01
Same Garmin Connect accounts.
I can see the FTP setting in each device. I am not sure how if the 520 and 745 are calculating the same IF and TSS. The two are using the same sensors though - HRM, 4iiii PM, etc.
Agreed that the 745 knows more about me where as the 520 only knows what it knows from when I'm on the bike. Sounds like the 745 has the more accurate reading.
Finally, I do not have share setting enabled for both devices because the 520 does not have that feature.
Thanks for the help/guidance.
