I have 2 bikes with fenders, and I go out in the rain and mud all the time, bro. I don't see where I said "it's hard to go out the door into a storm", but that's your problem.

The numbers are so high right now in the Peninsula. I can see it outside too. When I rode this morning it was only in the 40's and yellow. Crazy.

I rode this afternoon, all South of Edgewood. It was hazy/smoky along 280 most of the way from Brisbane (where I work) down, but it was much clearer by the time I got to Edgewood, and then clear the whole way down to Portola and Alpine and back.

Yeah, except they are talking more about the dry lightning associated with whatever pittance we get. I swear if this thing starts a whole new batch of wildfires, I quit earth.

Dry lighting started up some fires near St Helena last night, sounds like they got them under control. Felt a couple of sprinkles yesterday working outside, and got some drops on the windshield later, but barely enough to trouble the rain gauges. 0.12" up-valley was the highest reading, maybe (hopefully) there will be more to come in the next few months, but for now there's just bright suns on the forecast.

Yeah I saw some impressive and scary looking lightening over Martinez yesterday. Lots of stuff to burn up there but pretty easy access to put it out.

I saw one big lightning bolt somewhere on the Peninsula north of San Mateo last night. And got about a dozen raindrops on my windshield.

Same up here in North Bay, at least over the weekend. Saturday was the clearest skies I've seen in a couple of months, although granted it hasn't been too terribly bad up at my place near the coast at any point this summer.
Got a good run in up Mount Tam Saturday followed by an hour and a half ride Sunday, both beautiful days.

It's a touch hazy today in Santa Rosa, pretty minimal really. Hopefully it's not too much for all of you a bit farther inland, Sacramento Valley in particular.

Well, I hear that fire/smoke season here in NorCal has come to an abrupt end. Feels like we lucked out this year, at least in the inner Bay Area.

Abrupt and early. I just searched my wildfires app, and there's a little something south of Red Bluff and a couple of even smaller ones near Medford Or, and that's it! Dang.

Meanwhile, the storms just keep stacking up in the Pacific. We may need a Flood Season thread at some point soon.

It turns out that making sure my indoor trainer was all set up for Smoke Season made sure it was set up for Wet Season!

A couple years back, when I turned 61, I was planning to ride my age in miles on or about my birthday in November, but we got hit with at least 2 weeks of smoke, which only ended the day it started raining and rained for a month. So I learned my lesson, and rode this year's age in miles a couple months back. I figure it still counts.

Oh, sure, it counts.

I just make sure that at least once between birthdays, I ride at least my age in miles, but I need to add whatever fraction of the year has gone by since my birthday. So in the year when I was 58, I didn't need to worry about it because I did a the Tour della Vigne century I mentioned earlier in this thread 3 months after my birthday. But when I was 59, I didn't do it until I was within 15 days of my birthday and hadn't ridden 59 yet that year, and by my rule I had to make sure I rode at least 59.96 miles. So I added about 3 miles to what otherwise would have been a 58.5 flat mile route (a route similar to the metric century route of the Tour of Long Beach). Last year the only 60+ miler I got was from the parking lot at Ernie Rodriguez Park in Livermore to the Junction and back, a lot harder than the flat SoCal ride, but I needed to add a short extra loop at the end so that I would exceed 60.77 miles. I don't have my 61+ mile ride in yet, so if I get to SoCal before the end of the year I might repeat the route from 2 years ago in December to have a flat, lazy route.

I'll just need to find a time to dodge smoke and rain, but at least there is reason to think smoke won't be an issue between now and the next birthday.

I'd say so. At least out where I live, in the low lying areas, floods are a yearly wet season occurrence. The bike path which runs a few miles away from my house, at its lowest point, was under somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 feet of water on Sunday an Monday. If there weren't so many trees, I could have kayaked that path.
