One of today’s riders has a beautiful new Trek Domane. He had an old one he said he bought several years ago for $3500 and was able to sell it to The Pro’s Closet for $3000. That means it’s likely the next user of the bike will pay more than the original owner paid new.

Golf day today. Started out 3 over after 5, and turned with a 47. Really good start for me, especially considering the 30+ mph winds. Then, put my back in spasm on 13. Game over. ☹️

Yeah, me too, pretty much. This season I am going to get some discipline about participating in a little less group insanity, keeping the intensity down, and starting to build some more “cellular” fitness to see me into my 70s and beyond. My other goal is one real day of weights and weight-bearing activity a week. I am up 2 or 3 lbs since New Years, all from the weights, which is good.

If shaking doesn't provide the answers, I recommend hitting it with something. Dead-blow hammers work nicely.

Another option is to cut an access port in the down tube to get a look inside. Duct tape will hold the cover on while riding.

Yeah, they absolutely should... but maybe they have and the scummy auto-renewal gives and a 'gotcha!' monthly fee or two per user results in their best revenue.

Thats what I am thinking. It’s just very noticeable now, I do not remember it before. I hear it when I go over bumps. If I gently pick up the front wheel and let it drop I hear it, If I gently drop the rear I hear it, If I shake the bike lightly I hear it, If I shake the bike violently I hear it. I can’t win.

Ive though of this. Think of the weight savings, If I cut a bit enough whole it has to be a couple of grams.

Off the bike would require me to take my rear wheel off and we have been over this.

Like I always tell the people in the 50 plus forum, there really are no rules, you can do it whenever and however you like.

I'm thinking this month I'll do something solo so I don't burn out chasing. Last year I did the "birthday" ride solo but 2 weeks later did it again with 2 friends who waited for me on the climbs.

I'd really like to get some body weight and resistance band work in to the routine; it's something that I've done since last summer, but I need to be more regular about it.

My Domane had pretty noticeable internal cable rattle. Does the Madone have the access hatch under the downtube water bottle bosses? If so, pop it open and see if you can secure the brake lines or wires or whatnot.

I think it does. Have not made it that far yet. Still waiting for that support group to start. I have a list of problems to get started on.

Madones do not have the access hatch, only the Domane.

On my Domane, there are clips inside the down tube to hold the cables and hoses in place. - they do not rattle. I do have a rattle in my left brifter.

Today I picked up the gravel bike that a friend has been saying he wants to sell but we never got together until today. He lives in Michigan part time and that's where the bike was. He gave me the new set of wheels he bought for it but the rear one won't work because the fins on the rotor hit the caliper, (needs a flat rotor) and the rotor from the old wheel won't go on the new hub. The old hub makes crunchy noises but I set it up and took it for a ride.

I can see the potential for these things. I took it on some mild trails and rode in some grass and on some cobblestone stuff. Much better than a road bike but definitely not a mountain bike. It only has 32mm tires and I put 60 psi to try it out. I didn't want to get over confident and end up on the ground.

The most glaring issue is the gearing. It has a 36x28 low gear. My road bikes have lower gearing and I want a gravel bike to have a low enough gear to go up the dirt roads around here. It has a 110mm bolt circle crank so I don't know how small a ring will fit. It has a 105 rear derailleur but not a long cage so I don't know how big of a cog will work. I see bikes on line with a 30 in front and 32 or 34 in back. That's what I'm thinking.

If I'm going to get one maybe I should just look for a new one. It was fun riding it but it's going to need some money spent after buying it.

We got a set of adjustable dumbbells. The bands weren’t doing it for me. I do dips on a cooler.

The gym at work is reopening this month too.

Not sure how you open that fitting on the Madone or what it’s for. It may be where they mount Di2 batteries. You could likely unscrew the plate and take a look, but it’s not designed to be regularly opened like on the Domane.

On the Domane, the flat kit is stored under that hatch, but if you look inside on the lower end you can see a bracket for the Di2 battery.
