I can still remember the time I was riding up Mt. Hamilton and just as a car sped around me, a huge deer jumped out in front of the car and got smashed head on. The deer slides for probably a hundred feet or more, then tries to get up and stammer away. I could tell it was just sheer adrenaline and the poor thing was certainly completely busted up inside. The car was doing 40+ easy and the entire front left of the guy's car was caved in. I can still hear the sound in my head, and the visuals, it kind of ruined that ride for me.

This actually happens a lot with squirrels, I'm always very cautious and slow down around those dumb animals. WHICH WAY DO I RUN, THIS WAY THAT WAY, NO RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE BIKE/CAR THE SECOND IT'S PASSING ME!

The above Mt Lemmon deer collision video brings to mind another video of a collision closer to home...probably most Bay Area riders have at least once ridden over the Golden Gate Bridge and down the hill into Sausalito. Don't jump as I did upon seeing this video again - even though I knew what was coming. ...After seeing this video a few years back, it took me quite a while before I stopped thinking about it when descending this same hill on what is a regular route of mine.

Jeez, there's zero warning there...it's a guard rail and what looks like a big drop off then all of a sudden POW! I always think about these kinds of things going down Diablo, coming around a blind curve. Sadly, I think more about idiots in cars driving on the wrong side of the road now when I descent Diablo...guess I'd rather face the deer than a metal car body!
