From what I remember, M2 was discontinued after lots of frame breakage. The filaments would "migrate" away from the weld during welding, resulting in weakened weld areas.

Yeah M2 turned out to pretty much be an unmitigated disaster. Don't agree with the reviewer on a number of items: the dia compe brakes sucked (ran these on several bikes and would always switch them out for Shimano XT/XTR v-brakes - far superior). Also, grease guard was a gimmick personally I was never a fan of this system and with the advent of sealed bearings became a moot point. Absolutely loved the Suntour XC Pro drive train and shifters however - always my favorites too bad they went bust.
