Drinking while riding is part of the skill set of riding. It shouldn't be thought of as interrupting the ride and breaking momentum. You shouldn't have to stop pedaling or even ease up on your power output. Learn to grab your bottle in a smooth and quick motion, take a swig, and put it back.

Cottonmouth

Chewing gum helps.

Heh heh. Reminds me of the scene in Moonrise Kingdom when Sam is giving his friend backpacking advice. "If your throat gets parched, stick a pebble in your mouth and suck on it. You can quench your thirst with the spit, supposedly." A few minutes later they try it, and then he brings out his canteen and says, "I brought water too."

Try Biotene Dry Mouth Oral Rinse. I’ve never used it before riding but it works great at night on winter months.

I think you need to watch what you eat and drink before you ride. Some foods which are heavy on the sodium make me thirsty and dry. Also caffeine can dehydrate you.

You can try Biotene. I have dry mouth all the time, not just from cycling. That’s what doc recommended but I just keep drinking liquids.
