FS: 72 Nishiki Professional
Hello all,
This is a nice example of the Professional. It's about 80% original. The wheels are not and those were replaced by the original owner. It now has clinchers which roll well and have zero issues. The hubs spin nicely. The drivetrain along with the Suntour shifters are original. It came with original saddle but it was shot so I attached the Brooks B-17 for comfort. The frame is straight with zero dings or dents but has a few scrapes but nothing terrible. The driver side decals are a little peeled but Velocals has available if you would like a replacement. Other, than the saddle I've done nothing to the bike other than clean and lube headset and bottom bracket. The chrome lugs are in terrific shape and really pop!
The original owner also changed out the brake levers for aero levers. The brake calipers, however, are the original.
Size: 23"
Top Tube: c-c 58.5
Seat tube: c-c 58
It rides smaller though if that makes sense. It really "feels" like closer to a 56-57cm but maybe its because i have long legs. Ha!

Wow, chrome HT lugs, cutout lugs, chrome drop outs, this is a beautiful bike at a great price... that is too big for me, thankfully. I may be seeking one my size after I get through a few projects.

had one of these BITD but I think mine was 1974, however had to trade down for a Nishiki semi-Pro cause I could not afford to keep getting flats (sew-ups, goat-heat thorns and "newbie" just did not mix).
These Pros were much nicer than the semi-Pro albeit the clincher tires held up better and could do my own patching.

FYI - As of the the first of the year Velocals is no longer selling bike decals. I was lucky enough to get in a last minute order for the Nishiki Pro set to restore my 1976 bike. I stripped the paint a few years ago and then other projects got in the way so it's been just sitting in the shop.
I am now motivated to get busy on mine. These pro models had some very nice features - long tailed lugs, biplane fork crown with round fork blades. Half-step gearing.

Thanks for the update. I have seen them on eBay as well if anyone interested to replace, it’s been a minute since I’ve looked, however.

I'm tempted even though I don't need another bike. My first 10 speed was a Nishiki. I've tried to find a replacement but Nishikis didn't have much of a market presence in central Iowa.
These are 27 inch 120 OLD wheels right?
Is that stem a 21.15? It should be a 22.2 as that was used on the higher end Nishikis but I'd thought I'd ask first.

Hey guys,
Im currently working and can get the measurements this evening. My guess for the stand over height is roughly 32-33 inches. But I will firm that up tonight. Hang tight.

Not so sure about the stem, it could be either but given this is a 1972 I would not rule out a 21.15mm quill. only our seller can pull it up to confirm for sure

The model name was Road Compe. Those came out while I was working at Bikecology (summer '72 to summer '74).
I copied the 54-44/14-24 10-speed gear ratios when I prepped my American Eagle Semi-Pro (Nishiki Competition) for the 1972 Los Angeles Wheelmen Double Century.
I know some of you like early 1970s Japanese bikes, but my Semi-Pro was too heavy and too spongy. I happily put 40K miles on it before getting the Peugeot PKN-10 and then the Bianchi and realized how much faster they were.
I copied the 54-44/14-24 10-speed gear ratios when I prepped my American Eagle Semi-Pro (Nishiki Competition) for the 1972 Los Angeles Wheelmen Double Century.
