I guess a "benefit"(?) of moving to a more populated area is the ability to use a bike to cut down on the short errand-type jaunts. I'm doing my best to become "car-light". We'll see how well I do when the temperatures drop and the snow flies!

eatontkd more pictures of that 7.5 please! Trek used to paint their frames in some really stunning colors and finishes. Yours is one of those. The blue frame with white accents and white cable housings looks ace!

Well thank you!! I bought it used at a LBS. It was traded in for an E-bike. I am, so far, very happy with my purchase

These are our utility hybrid bikes. They're both Reids. An Australian brand manufactured in Taiwan. Did some upgrades to both.
Top:
Changed saddle to a Brooks B17. Replaced the triple w/a 44t single. Rebuilt wheelset w/generic stainless spokes. Upgraded tires to SMP 32mm w/a Mr. Tuffy tire liner in rr. Wellgo dual-sided clipless. Black Basil bell, Cygolite 450 hl, Niterider 150 tl.
Bottom:
Replaced stock 44t crankset w/38t. Changed 7 sp 14-28 fw to 8 sp 13-34. Changed stock Shimano 7 sp thumb to Sunrace 8 sp twistgrip. Sliced the grip to make room for the shifter. Upgraded saddle to a Brooks WSD. Added a Basil bell, Basil single side pannier, Raliegh style pump, Zefal leather trim wb cage. Catseye hl and tl. Added Mr Tuffy tire liner to rr tire. Changed out pedals from plastic to stainless steel hi-grip. She's real happy w/t pedal and drivetrain upgrades as the low gear ratio allows her to pull hills much easier. 38x34 is a big difference from 44x28. 6 gear inches? Plus she likes the twist grip because she doesn't have to find the shifter w/her thumb.

I didn't think I'd see a Reid on here. One of my first 'proper' bikes after I upgraded from the $90 'Kent' I bought on Gumtree. It was a great bike for about 2 years before it fell to bits (issues wit the bottom bracket) but I did ride it every single day.

We purchased ours in 2016. The upgrades really helped. We live in Wellington, NZ so rust can be a problem. Mine gets used much more so when I did the wheelset I replaced the chain, bb,, fw and crankset. For entry level bikes they're good quality. They were about 350 NZD each and probably another 500 NZD in upgrades and accessories for both. They're both a couple rungs up now. W/t upgrades and accessories they'd be about 6-700 each at a lbs.

What happened to your BB? Couldn't the cartrage just be replaced? Nice looking bike, though.

I found the official report! Damaged beyond repair! I think they tried to fix it, but it just didn't work. I know its a grey area if the BB is part of the frame, but Reid claimed to offer a 'lifetime warranty' on their frames. When I tried to claim a new frame they baulked, and after a bit of toing and froing they finally agreed - but gave me a small frame (mine was XL). I got sick of arguing with them, sold it, then bought a Giant Roam, which lasted over twice as long as the Reid. I've since become a huge fan of Giant bikes.

The Reid 29er wasn't a bad bike per se -- on the contrary - it was quite good, but I guess poor customer service has put me off the brand. I actually found the receipt for it when I found the report below. It cost AUD339 (circa 2012), which looking back now, is a bargain, but was a lot of money for me at the time. Unlike you, I left the bike as stock - bar the seat and pedals. The wheels were clapped out in the latter stages of its life and I actually had a few spokes repaired at the Reid Store in Melbourne, looking back now they should have recommended I buy a new set of wheels rather than repair dodgy/loose spokes (there was a lot of them!). If I had of upgraded the wheels right from the start it would have been a really good bike, but might have also meant the wheels would be worth more than the bike...

I don't mean for this post to be 'negative'. Just my personal experience, and I did ride that bike everyday for over two years...like I said it was my first 'proper bike' in that it was the right size for me, the gears actually worked and shifted correctly, which totally transforms the cycling experience...

haven't ridden mine since summer vacation w/ the family. but I expect it will get use this winter. need to check the chain, it was new not long ago & I should take care of it. thought I saw some surface rust on it, in the basement the other day. should mount up the studded tires. wonder if I gave it a rinse after it's last ride & put it away wet?

And here's a picture of mine. It started its life as a Trek Dual Sport 3, but had some replacements/upgrades. In the order mirror, pedals (double side SPD), SQLab Innerbar ends, SQLab 611 saddle, transmission (from Acera 2x9 — 46/30 chainring/11/36 cassette to Deore 2x10 46/30 chainring/ 11/42 cassette), Mavic Allroad wheels with 40mm tubeless Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M tires, Wahoo Bolt 2, Ergon GP1 handles. The polyvalence of this bike is hard to beat!

Out for a ride the other day; it was 47 degrees F so I stopped for a quick pic at the local elementary school.

The more I ride this bike the more I like it!

2020 Jamis Durango A2 & 2020 Trek FX2 Disc

I've bought both a 2020 Jamis Durango A2 & 2020 Trek FX2 Disc in the past month for $350 each. Both look near mint. As it gets warmer, I will evaluate both and see which one, if either, is the keeper. They both are great bikes, but at 5' 10", I am right between a medium and a large for most brands and these are both Larges. Not sure I care to maim the boys on the top tube in the event of an emergency stop...

Thank you guys. I bought it used as I wasn't sure about the "hybrid thing". Turns out I use this one more than my go to campy equiped racer.
