Protective hub end cap

As many of my posts start: I’m an idiot.

I broke off the protective plastic end cap in my new wheels. Any recs in how to remove the remaining tip?

I’ve tried pulling with channel locks, poking it out with an old skewer (and hammering the skewer a little).

its for shipping from the factory Did you consider putting the QR skewer in from the other side and pushing it out ?

Yeah, I’ve tried pushing, I did a little light hammering with a mallet. It hasn’t budged. Looks like the box was damaged a little at that spot, so I’m going to claim only partial responsibility.

Might be easier to push it through to the other side. Be sure you have something that long, almost the same diameter and strong.

Or same thing from the other side.

You also could just drill it out. But plastic can grab hold of a bit suddenly and make you loose control of where the bit is going and ruin things you don't want ruined. So if it comes to that desperation level, be careful. A drill press with the wheel held to to the table securely will be safer.

Thanks! I don’t know which side you were recommending, but I did the opposite of what I was doing (hit the part that was sticking out with a skewer) and with a lot of pushing and then a lot of pulling, it’s free.
