Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm working my way through the Zwift Academy workouts, this time doing them with FTP set at my most recent value. I'm not sure why, but I'm finding them a lot more doable, even at a higher FTP setting. Also, my HR is not only not going quite as high (maybe 4 bpm lower maximum) but also it's dropping a lot farther in the recovery segments - the lowest it got during the 6 minutes between the 2 sets of 3 back in September was 132. Tonight it was 113.

I find it hard to believe I'm suddenly in that much better shape. Maybe I was sick in September/October or something?

Ah, okay. Look up “chondromalacia” as long as you’re googling.

Breakthrough! I see steps and other apparent non-linearities in my response too.

Well, since we're doin' show and tell with the annual mileage, I'm at 6150, with a few hundred of that coming on the trainer.

I see on Strava that you mention a going to a higher cadence (110+rpm) for the VO2 max intervals - yeah, that's always been the case for me that my best results in that region, and above, have been at higher than cruisin' cadence (which is something that probably would have taken a while to realize with ERG).

Most of my CPU cycles, during this morning's coffee and tea, have been devoted to ironing out how to tackle a not-insignificant to-do list while the girl is at preschool.

....and then I happened to glance at the family calendar and saw that my wife had added a preschool concert to the day, smack dab in the middle of the morning.

Wait a minute. I checked intervals.icu and have to come clean with the real numbers:

Total miles: 7476 mi; 459195 vertical ft
Fake: 1668 mi; 123146 vertical ft

I misunderestimated the fake miles and there was some walking and hiking in the above numbers.

I just have hours, because I don't run a speed sensor on my trainer. 340 hours so far this year, which doesn't count weights.

I just enter "trainer" in my log. no miles or hours. However, if I subtract my real miles from the miles that Strava says that I have, I get 535 indoor miles this year.
