Saw a bike last night locked to a rail by a U-Lock around the seatpost. It was a quick release post too! I took a picture but it turned out crappy (old blackberry+night time=the suck)

i'm assuming they did that so they can brake in either hand position

i used my thumbs on the levers while on the bar ends and can slow down quite bit like that
