I had a few pieces of leftover bacon so I just wrapped up some jalapeno peppers, grilled 'em up and ate them with a little bit of cream cheese. Goddamnit, I love food.

What was this thread about again?

Some day.... BFSSFG cookout. Can we invite newbies so when they start asking questions about bikes we cut them off to talk about what we ate last night? I would travel great, great distances for such event.

No one really answered the question.... wow.

I've seen most people rock SPDs for road bikes then fixies, and for good reason.

Remember that you can't coast on a fixie. Cages allow you to at least put your foot on the backside of the pedal if you miss your first shot at entering the cage, but SPD pedals (depending on the pedal and cleats) will allow your shoes to slide off the pedal... resulting in a very embarrassing looking failure. Unless you're a master at clipping in and can accurately clip in on the first rotation of the pedals, don't use cleats on fixies. All of my buddies who use SPD on their road bikes coast while clipping in the other foot.

How many fixies has anyone ever seen that has a SPD cleat?
Besides, most fixies are meant to be fun / fast acceleration / low distance bikes (under 10km). You can of course take it to be more than that, but they aren't as practical as your average road bike.

Cheapest cage I could find at MEC: $8 Wellgo plastic pedals + straps.
Cheapest SPDs I could find at MEC: $50 pedals, $80 shoes.

Hm.

Platforms on a fixie w/o a retention system is only for the really experienced. It's a lot harder to keep your feet on the pedals if you even for a second wonder off and forget that you can't coast. Your feet will slide off and get tangled up in the spinning pedals. Also, it's wayyy harder to slow down using no retention system.

Dude, you didn't read the question the OP asked:

can you use plain platform style or the clipless with cleat.
The answer was provided in post 2:

I ate oatmeal with wildflower honey for breakfast.

pkpyro - Open your eyes. A lot of people use a clipless setup riding fixed.

Also, congrats. This is among the dumbest things I've read on this forum:

thank you all...you did aanswer my question.....I will not use clipless or platform pedals when I get a fg bike.

I got an answer thats all I care for...makes sense why you would not use platform or clipless when you explain it.
