Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mid 70s and sunny here this weekend. Problem will be the 20-30 mph winds I saw forecast on the news last night.

Oh well. I'm ordering 100 bags of mulch for delivery by this weekend. Looks like the weekend will be arms and upper body days.

I ordered a bag of char coal that got delivered to my local Ace. I wanted to grill last week but had none. You cannot get good stuff around here this time of year.

Are you using lump or briquettes?

I haven't had any troubles finding lump, but have had troubles finding the brands I like. Have been settling for what I can find at Home Depot or Lowes.

Well, sounds like you’re recovering well if you can run. It’ll come back.

When I had my hip surgery it took 3.5 months to be weight bearing, 6 months to “run” and 18 to get back to “pre” fitness

Don't know about that, but if you show up wearing a hockey helmet and missing a few teeth, you might find the competitors give you more room.

The cap won't be the deciding factor.

I’m thinking I could get $650 ish for the dual sided selling them- I could replace with a power2max crank /pm or just buy some MTB pedals and do these races without power. I guess the last option is a single sided stages. Decisions, decisions
If you're doing the one-bike solution, rather than moving PMs among multiple bikes, and you want to have pedal flexibility for road and off-road, I think that going crank-based makes a lot of sense (I personally wouldn't do the Stages/4iiii route, though, unless they've gotten their DS problems straightened out recently).

Lump. I have some trouble during the pandemic. Whole Foods would sometimes have pretty good stuff, but later last summer it only had briquettes. Sometimes my local Lowes and HD would have nothing or only some brand called Cowboy, which I didn't like in part because the bags contain a fair amount of very large pieces that are difficult to break up. I am a one-man operation. I don't need huge pieces.

I have a friend who does a lot of smoking/grilling. He recommended a brand called Rockwood. It's pure Missouri maple. That's what I just ordered. He said his local Ace carries it. I had to order mine for store pickup. Arrived within maybe 3 days. I will pick it up this weekend.

So...My tail light hasn't shown up despite Amazon saying it was delivered to my office on Monday. I checked tracking information and confirmed after a call with Amazon that it was delivered to the USPS on Monday. In my experience, that adds a few days to the delivery time despite the USPS saying it was delivered. Amazon refunded my money. I suspect the USPS will deliver it today or tomorrow.

So much for convenience.

Let me know how that goes with the maple. I typically buy oak to use in my Egg.

I've used the Cowboy and not a fan. I've also used the Egg brand, but it's expensive. I've used Royal Oak, Kamado Joe (large chunks), and some others. I'm currently on a bag of Frontier that I picked up at HD a few weeks ago since it was all they had. I like it so far.

Can only use lump in the Egg, and cannot use briquettes or accelerants in it. I light it with a Loof Lighter (LOOFT Lighter I LO1-US (homedepot.com)). If you haven't ever used one of those, you might give it a look. No fluid, paper, or chimney required.

I do use soaked maple, hickory and mesquite chunks for smoking depending on the cook.
