Fuji M-100 Mountain Bike?

My wife gave me this Fuji mountain bike today for Valentines Day. Apparently, her boss bought it years ago and never even opened the box. Asked her if she wanted it and she said yes. It's been sitting in their warehouse for years. Problem is, I can't find anything on the web about this bike. Not sure how old it is, how much it's worth, nothing. It's a Fuji M-100, 26" x 20" (M). Has M-100 written on the top tube. Aluminum rims, Shimano derailleurs...the manual that came with it is a generic Fuji bike manual that is no help at all...

Looks like Fuji makes some really nice bikes but I don't think this is one of them...

Any help is appreciated!

Try posting some pictures of the bicycle. And make sure that the pictures are of the drive side (the side with the gears).

Pretty sure that this is a very low end Fuji ATB. Not exactly sure what is sold for, but based on what I remember for specs, could not have been more than $225 to $250. I am not even sure it was sold through dealers, but possibly through some big box stores like Dick's.

Not worth much. Just one of those typical lower end rigid frame MTBs. I have one myself. Bought mine at a garage for $20, I would not have paid $30 for it.

It's a pretty nice Valentine's Day present, especially with Spring about a month away.

The most important thing is if it fits you.

Two links:

https://www.ehow.com/how_14104_determ...ect-frame.html

https://bicycling.about.com/od/howtor...MTB_sizing.htm

If it should be too small for you, maybe it will fit your wife.

Anyway, new and in a the box, sure beats a box of chocolate!

Any Fuji new in box is worth more than you paid. I wouldn't pay $20 for a '60's Barbie, it has nothing to do with their value.

It's a fine gift, you have a great wife. That alone is worth it!

welcome to the forum kxcd, your wife's boss gave it to her? a brand new bike for free, that is a great deal in anybodies book. I agree it looks to be a low end model but NEW and free is great.

That, brand new, and assembled properly would certainly be worth $100.00 on the Richmond Craigslist (remember, we are talking brand new). No, it's nothing special. However, if it fits you or your wife, you've just fallen onto a nice excuse to get started cycling. Take it.

+10 Nothing beats free! My limitation on what I would pay for it is what I could get for it. MTBs are hard to sell, even really good ones. But if I needed one for myself or my family, then I would pay more of course.

Enjoy your new bike! These older hardtail MTBs make great commuters. One thing I would suggest, because it has been sitting for a while is to make sure that everything is lubricated properly and that the tire sidewalls are not cracking. At some point you might want to upgrade the components to better vintage ones (and you can find Deore XT and Exage M500 fairly inexpensively and they will make your ride more enjoyable, especially as far as shifting goes.).

Great present. Good luck and enjoy it!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I had another guy who is well versed in selling Fuji bikes tell me it may be from 1985-90 but I can't believe it's that old. My wife said she was told 10-15 years old...

Yes, apparently my wife's boss won this years ago and it's been in their warehouse on one of the shelves all this time...

The tires appear to be in great condition, no signs of cracking or dry rot. They haven't even touched pavement yet! I haven't even got a chance to ride yet since there's snow on the ground with more coming tomorrow. Seems to fit me. I have about 1"-2" clearance when standing over it...

I'll be sure to lube everything properly when I do go out though...

Thanks again!

That would be an ok fit if you do mostly road or light trails, but if you are thinking about doing technical trails with this MTB, you would need more like a 4 inch clearance.

It's a promotional bike from the '90s. Visa or Master Card gave them away as points rewards. Keep the bike. They had to stop giving it away because it was so popular. It was made in Taiwan, not china. Just put on new tires and tubes, with a new seat. It's back on the road.

Congrats on your old new bike and a loving wife!.

The top brake cable stops were used in 1991 by Fuji, before they were pass thought, the color markings on saddle and tubing look similar to 1991 but reversed. Seat tube cluster looks closer to 1991 than to that on earlier bikes. Perhaps is a 1992 but I see no catalog for that year. Components should be date stamped used the most recent one for the bike's date. But that SIS shifting looks 1988-90.

After 12 years, the bike might officially be C&V.
