Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Strange place for it. Near the top of a hill. Quasi-isolated (for now).

Yeah, What finally did it for us was the mast track (holds the mainsail to the mast) breaking and threatened to unzip all the way up. We considered various fixes, but we didn’t have enough fuel to get home or to Bermuda from mid-course, and we called our families and retired. The race was interesting. The wind got variable in velocity and direction much earlier than predicted and we caught some lucky breaks, putting us 11 nm ahead of the scratch boat in our class and making very good numbers. We had podiums in our eyes when we turned around. However, at that point, we had already had the spinnaker up and down twice and ultimately shredded it, which would have been slow down-course. The trip back was most unpleasant. We had to motor and the last half was into high 20s to mid-30s on the nose, horrible chop, and lots of commercial traffic. One of worst nights I’ve ever had on the water.

As Mojo says, **** happens, things and people break, especially when you go hard. But the boat has an unlimited maintenance budget and we will have another shot at it.

Was the sail inventory limited by rule? I would have thought you’d carry more than one spin. Maybe two primaries and a chicken chute.

Sucks that you had to turn around, but better to do so where you can reasonably get to a dock.

Really sucks the pounding you took going home.

Before a boat race, does one watch the movie Wind for motivation?

You make a ton of money. More than both of us combined make.

The maintenance on that boat will buy you a fleet of Madones. And a support vehicle.

Weird choice, to watch Lost. I mean the race would be over before you finished the first season. Nor does it have anything to do with boats.

You do you I guess.

The movie, “All is Lost” featuring Robert Redford.

It’s all about ocean sailing.

Ohhhhh that makes more sense.

Theres that new true story movie where the lady survived for like 3 months on peanut butter and talking to her dead fiancés ghost while floating adrift.

That will get you in the mood to drop the sail and haul ass. I’m sure I am saying it wrong.

Local water plant. No waterway for at least 15 miles.

You said it right. But, you can’t just start motoring if your fuel supply will not get you home. If you run out of fuel you’ll have bigger problems.

She was talking to someone that was not their, with a boat half way sunk. I’d say she had bigger problems.

Is the movie called Adrift?
