Evaluation request 1972 Zeus, 531 frame

Frame and fork purchased after damage straightened. I subsequently assembled with Zeus components mostly. Zeus hubbed clincher wheels, smooth as butter with supple 25mms. 58cmX57cm (ctc) with ~16cm headtube.

...the frame looks like a Zeus Competition, but I'd be hard pressed to assign a value.
I'd be the first one to say that it seems to me like the market demographic for stuff like this is dying off as we age.

I cannot claim to be expert, but in early 70's Zeus produced bikes in northern Spain, and of course components independently for sale.

I read the history but forget too many details.

Great looking bike I really like the medium geometry on these 70's Spanish bikes somewhat aggressive but with longer chain stays and top line shows they spent a a bit more on tubing and construction you would be surprised on boom era bikes how many makers cut corners to save on a inch and few dollars of tubing. As for value with the nice rebuild with re trued frame and slight mix of components I would say $400 give or take a bit.

Which would be a shame, because the Zeus stuff parted out probably would fetch more than that by itself, wouldn't you think? And still have the rest of the non-Zeus stuff to sell as well.

IMO, Zeus frame sets too often are less exciting than their components. On this one, the seat stay "top eyes" treatment is an example, being squashed and shaped. Of course build details catch the eye as well, zip tie third brake clip, rear wheel all the way back in dropouts, etc. So, I think the bike might sell for $400-500. and that for possible components cannibalization...

Rear wheel all the way back in the dropouts may not be stylish but it is a common method for accommodating a 26 or 28 tooth cog on a bike with a rear derailleur that was designed for 24 max. Some of us are no longer 35, live in hilly country, and like to actually ride our vintage bikes.

Sweet. I often hear people talking about a complete Zeus build. No Zeus pedals?

Thanks for mentioning - I set those away and should pull them out from wherever I put them.

Also the third top tube housing clip (Zeus) is around, but I tired of abusing the paint.
Shame on me - the dropout adjusters I have are not Zeus.

Thanks to all commenters.

Points well taken. Altho zip tie is a concession to the top tube paint with finicky 1mm bolt-head on housing guide (now in a ziplock bag.
For anyone who reads BF C&V regularly they have seen this frame/fork in its' "as rescued from Canadian co-op dumpster pile" condition.
I called it a karmic bike, but maybe just an Ugly Betty with the best possible lipschtick, eh @Bianchigirll?
Probably best parted out.
And easier to ship components.
And I want to keep the wheels 'n tires. Butter.
And maybe brakes and levers, new Zeus hoods.

...the original Zeus pedals on my Competition frame were French threaded, and the quill cages were so narrow I think they were designed for a Vogue model's feet.

Mine we’re acquired in a trade with a BF C&Ver. Go beautifully into a Mavic 9/16 crank. Flat tops make this a better pedal than many with outer humps dictating narrow shoes. Right pedal has some chrome coming off end cap and needs a quick bearing check, but otherwise in better than good condition. And not French.
Unridden by me.

Front facing shows that clips were used.

Probably keepers.

Thanks to all commenters.
While not correct for Zeus I like the various Suntour clamp on cable guides more than the Zeus or campy stuff a bit heavier and springier with better chrome so they tend to be easier on paint and give one a little bit of wiggle room on tubing sizes.
