HG-EV vs. HG Shimano free-hub?

What is HG-EV, and how does it differ from HG, which I assume is the 11-speed Shimano road-compatible freehub I have been using for the last 8 years?

The Shimano website doesn't go into any detail, and I can't seem to find anything elsewhere...

Thanks in advance.

Bikes: Too many. Giant Trance X 29, Surly Midnight Special get the most time.
