Front fender on Montague's?

So, I received my new Montague Pro a couple of days ago, and I'm generally pleased.

One issue, though. I'd folded it up and we putting it in my car when the front fender sort of pivoted and hit the floor end-on. The fender sort of shattered.

I like the bike, overall, but I'm far from impressed with this front fender design. I'm leaving towards just leaving it off.

Do others have poor experiences with these fenders?

Toe overlap on the front fender on Montagues is a known issue.

There might be a third-party, clip-on alternative.

In my opinion, unless a fender comes down low enough to keep grime off the bottom bracket, chain, pedals and your feet, it's almost pointless. Because of the way they fold, Montagues stock fenders don't come down very far.
