Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I will not be overdoing it today. I'm off the hook for lunch at the beach, so I will do a normal 22 miler and spend the day in the wood shop. I promised a desk for the adopted granddaughter, who started preschool last week. She has homework! She'll be four later this month.

So easy to just sit here killing time when I should already be on the road. Supposed to hit 110 @3:00 pm with a heat index of 117. Where does the time go?

Upon my return from the C&V Ride yesterday, Mrs. GeneJockey was sitting on the couch. She said, "I fall down go boom!" Turned out her foot had fallen asleep and when she stood up it didn't support her. Luckily it seems to only be a sprain/twist. Ice and advil improved it a lot. Now, of course, she being 64 and it being the next day, I expect she'll start feeling the bruise and other effects of the fall. Getting old is not for sissies.

The Younger Boy had his friends over for D&D, a small victory, since it had required Mrs. GJ to remove enough stuff from the garage for them to set up the table. He and I had cleaned it up months ago for this very purpose and Mrs. GJ said, "Oh, look! A clean place where I can organize my stuff!", which basically meant a clean space she could more more crap into.

Today's supposed to be a hot one. As in, excessive heat watch hot. So I'm hoping to get out on the road early. We'll see. Frakkin' Greyhound was restless at 5 AM. Got out of bed, walked out to the living room and back, lay down, got up, lay down again, got up again. I let him outside, he peed. Back to bed, then up again. Finally, Mrs. GJ being hors de combat, I took him to the living room and shut the door behind us. After another half hour of up and down, he settled down and is STILL lying down, the mangy f***er. Dogs.

Finished the week well off of the mileage podium (139 miles) but have the KOP under wraps (20.4) unless bampilot06 turned on his bike computer for his flight in to MSP.

If the minneapolis airport is empty, you might be on to something.

Much cooler than normal here; I'll go out for a short one after lunch.

Edit: I waited too long; clouds are rolling in. So it's a nap and then back to work.

Mrs. John froze a bowl of water and gave it to the cat and he loves it. He lies on the floor with his paws wrapped around the bowl lapping the top of the ice.

Just finished my first ride on my Chou Yang Speed Shark tires. I'm not sure if they were as speedy as my GP4000's with latex tubes, but they were fine. Very smooth. Details: total bike and rider with equipment, about 240 lbs. 28's on narrow rims, 85/81 psi. Kevlar bead/ Kevlar belt. $34 for two on Amazon. They were fast enough to win a sprint (barely) against an angry farm dog.

But would they be fast enough to beat beng to the liquor depot?

I've never ridden Gatorskins, so I can't compare, but these Do have pretty flexible sidewalls.
