2007 Trek Pilot 5.2

Hey everyone sorry if I’m posting this in the wrong form I couldn’t find a better place to put it. I’m looking at a Trek pilot 5.2. It’s been really well-maintained it’s a full carbon fiber frame with Ultegra components. Do you think $800 is a fair price for it? I appreciate any input

Welcome to Bike Forums.

This will give you a rough idea.

BE VERY SURE to inspect ALL the carbon....
Buying used Carbon can be frowned upon by some, especially if you don't know the history of the bike.
I personally have done it twice with great results and one bike I didn't buy. It had a cracked fork I felt during my inspection.

Thanks a lot for the heads up. What’s the best way to try to detect a cracked frame? Also, I read it bicycle blue book was kind of a bunch of ******** and it was a conflict of interest because it’s just some California company that actually sells bikes to. Any thoughts on that? All the values seem to pretty pretty low. All that aside if they buy checks out do you think that’s a fair price? Thank you so much

"rough value" is all you get.
Pandemic forced up pricing and here in the SF Bay Area prices are also generally higher.

I've no idea how prices are in your area.

There is no sure fire way for you to detect a cracked frame. Even strange things like mis-matched front wheel might be an indication of a prior mishap.
I visually inspect and run fingers over every inch, but it's not foolproof. Bring an experienced friend is never a bad idea, second set of eyes.
Buyer beware!

I don't go by BBB prices, I go by recent sales.

I see one recent completed sale on the giant auction site (dated 8/24/2022) for a 2007 Pilot 5.2 in 54cm size at $351.99.

That's your starting point for a selling price. If you're wondering why, the world has largely moved away from rim-brake carbon bikes of the past.

In addition, any bike is in much less demand today than a year or two ago, when there was a huge demand for all bikes. Now the market has equalized in the other direction, and everybody is selling the bike they bought during the pandemic. Prices are way down as a result.

Can you help me determine a decent value for a 2011Trek Madone 4.5 in near mint condition? I would like to purchase it for myself just for riding around town

As far as your Madone - you can search ebay just as easily as I can. You need to have an account to do this, can't do it without one.

Click the Advanced Search tab in the upper right, enter your parameters in the Search field, and tick the Completed Listings box.

Thanks man I didn’t realize it was just eBay. What do you think about the 2011 Trek Madone 4.5? Just going based off what people are asking is kind of crazy I feel like everyone is over shooting it by far. Thanks for your help

Keep in mind while Trek has a good warranty it only applies to their original buyer. As for carbon inspection it can be done but by a knowledgeable person with the right equipment. Others are right search for the going price for used. Haggle down based on carbon and don’t know how it was ridden.
