Maybe it's just that the $20 jersey I got from Amazon (which I can't find in my history to share) was crap then. It works fine but it's not as nice as all of my other ones.

Over in the UK the demand for anything that could be turned into an RV went through the roof, and even 20+ year old conversions that were long overdue scrapping were going for silly money. Because people couldn't travel abroad, hotels were closed and so on.

I have these jerseys. Made of the same exact material as the $100 ones. Quality and workmanship just as good. Padded bike shorts I won't skimp on though. There is a difference in the padding and comfort between expensive bike shorts and Amazon bike shorts.

To be fair, there's a significant difference in quality, durability, wicking and comfort between a $20 and a $100 jersey. I'm just not sure that difference really matters to most people, but my $20 Amazon jersey definitely feels cheap compared to my others (an ancient team one in a sale for $15, a charity one for $60, and bargain supermarket ones for $7.50/15).
Whether there's much difference between a $100 and a $300 Jersey I couldn't say.

I stick to Patagonia Endless Ride Liners ($50-75) and Zoic Ether 9 Shells ($65-75). The difference between the Patagonia liners and whatever unpronounceable all caps Amazon brand I've been suckered into trying is night and day IMO. The Zoics are also noticeably better. I tend to buy about 3 liners for each 2 shells I buy. And the $100 Endura Spray pants were also worth every penny.
For tops I am a cheap date. Don't care for jerseys, and my favorite technical wicking T's are about $20.

The problem I've had with Amazon jerseys is they are just too long in the torso.
Once I put some snacks or whatnots in my back pockets, the jersey is hanging too low often below the saddle.
I like my POC enduro and road jerseys. They were $75 at half price and $100 full price respectively but are perfect on the torso length and just fit better overall.
The Amazon jerseys are just fine if I keep the pockets empty but not something I would wear on long 5+ hour rides on a road bike.

From these Amazon(or eBay) vs $100 jersey comments, it seems to be clear that different people have different expectations and levels of attention to detail which can result in very opposite feelings of having wasted money vs gotten a great value.
To some, it's a cycling jersey made out of a polyester material that looks similar and they never notice the fit and proportions being off, the material not actually being the same quality and the finer details simply not being done as well or even there at all. They're happy with those products and that's great for them.
For me personally, the biggest waste of money is buying cheap stuff like that. I much prefer to have fewer quality pieces from those who actually design and engineer them vs buying something that some company (usually in China) has attempted at copying from looking at pictures. Those items almost always fall far short in material quality, design, fit, detailing and durability. I don't want a BERGRISAR polyester jersey for $21 with pink and white chest stripes, a pink arm band, and a thin strip of reflective glued on under the pockets masquerading as a Rapha Brevet jersey that is so much nicer that they're not comparable beyond BERGRISTAR blatantly trying to copy the look.

If you paid $21 for a jersey with a 1/3 zipper from Amazon you got fleeced compared to a $55, full-zip Core jersey from Rapha. FACT!

Most of my clothing is the budget Pearl Izumi stuff, sometimes bought on sale. Not a waste of money to me, but not cheap. I like their gear. Also like a custom Online Cycling Gear jersey I ordered, with side panel lettering.
Both bicycles bought for the wife have proven to be mostly wasted expenditures. But that's OK - we got a few rides in together. Stuff that doesn't get used is what seems wasted to me. I haven't ridden my carbon wheels, yet, for instance. But, I can fix that...
