PSA: Acorn bags restocking notice

As usual, no affiliation, just a satisfied customer sharing the news. Happy hunting!
------------------

Hi everyone,

All our BLACK WAXED CANVAS BAGS will be restocked—in limited quantities—this Friday, November 19, at approx. 9am Pacific Time.

FAQ:
I checked your website at 9:00am Pacific Time, but everything is sold out!
You may need to refresh your browser to see the latest stock.
(A popular bag may sell out within a couple of minutes, so please order with this in mind.)

How many bags do you post when you restock?

It varies according to what's popular at the moment. We usually make anywhere from 4 to 12 of each model per batch.

I put a bag in my cart, then it disappeared at checkout!
This can happen when two customers click on the last remaining bag at about the same time. The latter order will get deleted. (Unfortunately, this is Shopify's standard procedure and I have no control over this.) Please check back in a few minutes—the buyer may have changed his mind and the bag will be put back into circulation.

Do you have a pre-order list?
I tried a pre-order list, but it grew uncomfortably long and difficult to manage, so I no longer keep lists. We currently sell on a first come, first served basis.

That said, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or frustration encountered when ordering our products. We are truly grateful for all the customers who stuck with us throughout the years!—Ron

I gave up on them, completely. I am no longer a potential customer of theirs.

I hear you, kinda hard to get excited about something you try to order and can't get.

On the other hand, I'm sure the husband and wife team that makes Acorn bags won't feel too bad about it, since they sell out on pretty much everything they make. I have a couple of their bags, high quality, good value.

I like their products and even though their business model is somewhat unorthodox they have been consistent over the years. I for one am patient enough to wait for the great bags they offer. Long live Acorn!

I mean, it's a bit of a pain to have to wait for them to restock, and sometimes it's frustrating when you miss out--- on the other hand, their bags are quite nice, and last forever. I have three, and I might order another today.

I rather like that they self-limit their production---- most modern businesses seem to pursue endless growth, which ends up not being the healthiest choice in a number of ways.

I'm going in, got my eye on a medium saddle bag, maybe more. Thanks for the heads-up, ascherer !

EDIT: Yup, scored a medium saddle bag. Get 'em while they're hot.

I got my tall rando. Would still like a tall brown one but the black matches my Carradice bags. It is a pain, but they are very nice bags and at a much nicer price than others I've been pointed to.

I have two of those, mighty fine bag, a bit of a TARDIS bag, bigger on the inside than the outside.

Wow, Still have bags listed.... either black is out or people gave up. Last time when brown was released they were out of the rando bags in 3 minutes.

I just ordered the medium saddle bag. I'd like to order a rando bag but I'm not sure it will work with my front rack. I sent a question off to Ron but I'll bet by the time I get an answer, the bag will be sold out.

One of the things I love about being on BF are threads like this that get me to buy stuff I had no idea I needed until I read the thread,

What about your rack is different? Have a pic? It may not fit in the leather on the back but should strap down on the bottom as that is all velcro.

It looks like the first item on their FAQ suggests refreshing the page if it says "sold out" when presumably there should be stuff available. I clicked the link and there are lots of bags showing as available. Try it again, get your bag!

It's a blackburn front rack and it's 5 and 1/4 inches wide; the website shows that the bags are designed for racks that are 4 and 1/4 inches wide. So I wrote Acorn to see if that might work.

I’m just glancing at the numbers but OP posted at about 1pm on the 18th. If you went 12 hours later, that’s 1am on the 19th. But the site and OP state 9am. So you were potentially way early?

Ive seen them have stock all morning.

It is a little difficult to buy from them, but I don’t think it’s as hard as these threads always make it out to be. The two times I’ve tried I got the items I’ve wanted, and they’ve had stock all morning today, but alas I’m not in the market for another of their bags yet.

It'll work, but the velcro straps on the bottom will be a bit short and overlap by only 2" or so. You could always use longer straps if needed.

Their smaller handlebar bags attach onto the tombstone of the rack, then strap down on the bottom of the rack, eliminating the need for a decaleur.

As Gugie said, it looks like they have changed the rack straps so you can replace them which will be nice.

Huh? The sale started today at 9 am PT/12 pm ET. Last night everything was marked "sold out" because the sale hadn't started yet. Or am I missing something?

Sorry, not to belabor this, but it took me a minute to figure out their site, so I hope it wouldn't stand in the way of your getting a bag you want. I have no stake in it, and I am not in the market for a bag, but they're apparently very good quality, well thought out, last forever, and are American made. What's not to like?

The only bags they have available right now are the black waxed canvas, because that's what they made recently. Every other bag and every other color of the available bags will show as "sold out." The link nlerner posted above takes you to the page focused on bags "available to ship right now." They post a schedule for when they expect to restock, and you can sign up for email notification if you want.

Just realized I'd made the mistake I had warned against: failing to set an alarm for 3 pm EST! But somehow they still had tall Rando bags in stock? Maybe black isn't as popular as brown or gray? I have one of their large saddlebags in black, and it looks great--- now I have a tall Rando Bag to match....

Price seems very reasonable for a handmade bag, especially compared to some of the other options out there....

Tall handlebar bag and a saddle bag, that's a great credit card tour combo...

That's the idea, gugie! When the VT roads are dry, going to try some slower-speed winter touring on this:
