My donor bike of unknown origin
So I picked up this complete bike that is too small for me but had some parts I needed and the price was less than I would’ve paid for just the wheels. I don’t know what it is but it is a nice bike. If anyone recognizes the frame , I would love to know . The P.O. bought it at a well respected bike shop just north of here . It has Campagnolo dropouts and , to me , very nice deatails.

The bike seems well cared for and he owned it for about 15 years. The handlebar is Cinelli first generation under the sponge! The wheels are going on my 1978 Raleigh Professional that I am building and that was the main reason I bought the bike. The Phil hubs are in great shape , the front is a curved Campy skewer and the rear is flat but has the later adjuster end . Gotta love C.L. !!

Very nice bike. The parts would seem to date it in the 70s, but two sets of bottle cage mounts(along with shifter braze ons) would point towards 80s?
The seat cluster looks similar to my Michael Johnson. I would guess it to be from a west coast builder.
Regardless, really nice find.

the rapier pattern chainstays are also suggestive of an anglophone product

the brake attachment points earlier, the braze ons point later.
not a lot to go in individuality wise.
paint could be a respray and braze ons added then.
Seat stay attachment points west coast.
Not radical geometry, sensible even.

I think more a touring geometry , although it has 700 x 25 tires and there isn’t much room for too much larger. Maybe 28’s would fit on it but I think that’s it. I’m stoked with the wheels and some of the other bits that came on it . I got my $ worth and then some. I told the guy my intentions and he was happy that someone”who knows bikes” got it. He wanted just a portion of what he was asking but I insisted he take the asking price. Really nice guy, hospice nurse . He bought a more modern Trek so he was done with it. This is what I love about my hobby! Of course I had to come clean with my wife . I told her that if I didn’t get it I would not be able to complete two other bikes that are in my garage in partial assembly mode. Once they are built they go to my shop with the rest of my fleet and out of her line of sight. She liked the color….

Yeah, that one is loaded with good useful parts. If you’re like me you never run out of places to put Suntour Cyclone GT derailleurs.

The Cyclone is following the FW to the Motobecane which is my touring bike . Right now it is limited to a 28 tooth low cog and the one on the mystery bike is much lower. I’m just not sure yet about the cranks as they are 165 length and I have never tried shorter cranks. I think there may be enough wrap in that GT cage for a 52/ 32 chain ring set up and the low gear on the FW. We’ll see but first I need to get the wheels onto the Raleigh . The handlebar was also a score. I love the first generation Cinelli bar and it came with a nice one. RustyJames , I will let you know if the crank set doesn’t work on the Moto. I needed the shifters for another Medici (#2) I’m building that has braze on shifter bosses. All the shifters I have are clamp on and the others are all in use. Musical bike parts , sort of a domino effect!

"just North of here" meaning Santa Barbara county?
There were several very talented builders who used that style of fastback seat cluster, but it's not a dead cert for any...could be Celmins, or Pauley. I don't think Greg Diamond but perhaps one of the Lighthouse offerings.
In any case these guys were all stellar builders.
What are the dimensions of this frame?
Do you have an asking price in mind?

The seat tube is 20” c-c, the top tube is 19.5” c-c , and the chain stay is 17.25” center of BB to center of drop out. I don’t have my good calipers at the house but the seat post diameter is 26.8 as far as I can tell. The seat post will tell me once I start the disassembly. North of me meaning Carpentaria so it could very well be a Santa Barbara craftsman. As far as price , I am not supposed to sell on this thread but you could PM me if you are interested. Mainly I just want to find someone who could ride and put it to use. It is too nice to have it retired. Joe
