Legs have shrunk considerably
Last fall I left the real work world and took up a job that keeps me outside 6 hours of an 8 hour day. It entails walking anywhere from 3.5 to 7 miles each day. I noticed my riding shorts no longer clinging to my thighs so I ordered up a new pair, based on the sizing chart of the manufacturer (yes, the company really makes what they sell, ie, manufacturer).
The new shorts are a size Large, the old shorts were size XXL. That is a whopping difference in leg size. Waist is a bit smaller, but the legs are much, much smaller than a year ago. I don't ride as much as I did before, which was nearly every day commuting, but I walk about 3 to 6 miles more each day than I did before. Wore the new shorts today and they felt nice and perfectly sized.

I take it this is a more physically active job. What have the scales shown?

At close to 100 kcal/mile, and about 3500 kcal per pound of fat, the amount of walking you do will help you lose weight. If you are a gear-masher, cycling will build up muscle mass in the legs, and you will lose some of that if you substitute walking.
