Our 32 year old moved back in with us about 8 months ago. In fact in the last 10 years, all three of our children have came back at least once, a father-in-law moved himself in for a bit, two ex daughter-in-laws and three grandchildren have stayed here for an extended time and three sister-in-laws tried to roost here. I had what I thought was going to be a humorous reply planned but after all that it is really kind of depressing.

OP, if clipless doesn’t work for you, don’t use them. Especially if you’re a triathlete, it might benefit you to avoid changing shoes at T2.
I don’t use clipless for commuting or errands, but I do use them for road, mountain, and cyclocross. I prefer being securely attached to the bike any time I need to stand, or sprint, or corner hard, or muscle over a sharp up, or bounce over rough or loose ground, or need to bunnyhop. If you don’t have any of those situations on your rides, then you may not benefit from clipless.

looks like a popular thread TLDR everyone's response. may I suggest you might like 1/2 clips, aka mini clips? they provide a little foot retention but are easy in / easy out. basically they are like old-school toe clips, w/o the straps, but they are a little smaller, meaning the top piece doesn't come as far over the top of the foot, like where the strap would normally pass through
