Ross Signature Triad FS or trade; F&F or bike
SOLD
This 84 Ross Signature came into my possession a year ago. Many stock parts were gone. Research shows it to be a high quality USA built frame of Columbus tubing hand built by acclaimed builders. I did build it up to try out but it is too small and racy for me. Numerous scratches but no dents or damage. Frame only for $125 and I would include the headset but not the shifters. No shipping, but I can drive to meet someone. Frame size stamped on BB is 55, but my measurements give 52 ctc on seat tube, and 54.5 on top tube.
I am located in Toledo Ohio.

Or whole bike
I did build up the bike which did come with the nice stock wheels and seatpost. I would take $250 for it without the seat or pedals. I would include the nice 600 pedals which I think were stock.
From another poster
I do have a box of sprockets, so I can make gearing changes

That's a heck of a nice bike. Calling on hazetguy as he knows a lot about high end Ross bikes.

Interesting on the shifter bosses, as I assumed being indexed that they were the later style. My 85 Ironman is non indexed, so surely has the earlier style, and there are many discussions on those. This one must be in a gray area on those. If I ever do take the shifters off, I will take pics.
Being bored, I looked into the shifters as @hazetguy asked about. They are stamped 6400 which Velo base says 1988 or later with 7 speed and the 4.5mm or 5mm mounting bolt styles. Pics online show that the m5 version is clearly stamped on the mounting nut. These are not, so I assume m4.5.
History on this bike was it belonged to an older gentleman. It had a nice Shimano triple crank on it which would also not be stock. Perhaps the previous owner went with the indexed shifters. Stock wheels and hubs now I think, and 6 speed. Would this shifter then work for indexing on the first gen 85 Ironman to index, as it is also 4.5mm mount? I’ve not seen that mentioned in discussions on the 85 Ironman of which I have one. Interesting.
Quite a hodgepodge as purchased

That frame sure does have some nice details in the lugs, dropouts and elsewhere.

This era was started by Tom Kellog from what I have read. He left in early eighties and afterwards Jim Redkay ran things. This is what I have read. After Jim, it was 3 of his experienced frame builders hand building these frames to his specs, hence the Triad name. Bike price was near $800 in 1984 with frame prices near $600.

Death fork? Naaaah!!
If I could induce you into shipping it I'd take the frame/fork in a New York second.

This is my 1981 Signature Touring, made during the Tom Kellogg era @ Ross. 531 goodness. I believe the racing model sported Columbus tubing..This is becoming one of my favorite bikes..John

That’s a beauty. I have an ‘85 Signature 294s that rides great and was one of their top production bikes, but this Triad is clearly in a very different league. Mine is clunky by comparison and I think was sourced offshore (albeit designed by Kellogg et al) whereas this one is obviously a hand built frame and I assume was made by the elite crew in Allentown?

More pics and info
I stripped this bike down yesterday and took some more pics. @hazetguy got me curious about things, and I decided to keep the wheels with the earlier Shimano uniglide freehub. The shifter bosses are the earlier style, so a buyer would need to source the early braze-on style Shimano shifters that took the 4.5mm screws. I posted on the main forum some pics to see what I had but didn’t come up with anything. Perhaps what came on this bike to me was the mythical adapter parts. I am not fluid in braze-on shifter speak, so I don’t know. I have a couple interested people if I would decide to ship the frame, so I wanted to post some photos of the shifter bosses and also the major scratches. I think the scratches are garage rash, but it is good to post them. I did take a ride on it to convince myself that it is too small for me and I am too old and not sporty. Despite the 55cm frame markings, it rides much smaller like I measured. I will be carrying this frame at the Bowling Green Ohio swap meet in a week from now.
Early style shifter bosses
Biggest scratch
25s on it, but looks like easy room for 28s
Just for info I took pics of the shifter parts. Info I have is that the 6 speed index shifters that came on this bike are generic Shimano. Perhaps the innermost part that goes nearest the downtube is the mythical adapter part? Either way, I wished to point this out and perhaps get some clarification of what I have. I don’t really know what is what, and if I would perhaps also sell some of these parts too. I am learning here.
6 speed shifter as purchased
Outer interface
Inner interface
Any info is appreciated, as these shifter bosses are only a couple year item from what I understand.

I'm glad you mentioned the BG swap. I was thinking it was later in the month and might have missed it. I don't know which day I'll be going, I'll see how the weather looks. It's close enough that I could go more than one day. I'll keep an eye out for you.

Either Thursday or Friday for me Ron. As you said, depends on weather. Saturday is always a no as they pack everything up that day and leave mid morning. Saturday also is the day for a big car show in Fremont that I’ve never been to. Supposed to be a spectator extravaganza as the police allow the people to do burnouts on State Street and have a good time. And yes, that seems a month early for the Memory Lane show. Perhaps they got tired of being wet and cold.

I have those same shifter bosses on a recently acquired Cilo that is sans shift levers. I read quite a lot of stuff on this forum and it is tricky to find levers that fit. (I believe the 600s and some of the D-A shifters fit but nothing else). I was hoping to go with bar-ends or brifters so cable stops need to be modified and I have no qualms tapping the threads out to 5mm so I can have options galore.
Plan F would be taking the frame to gugie and have him braze on the more common bosses but the paint on mine is decent-ish so plans B through E would need to be exhausted before that happens.

My impression from info here is that many shifters would fit if the adapter I have posted a photo of is included. I’m surely no expert though.

If I were in San Diego I would offer up some Shimano Golden arrow shifters I have in storage, they fit these shifter bosses without any adapter.
