I think you’d agree that $600-650 for a feather is steep, and that the inadequacies could be well masked by good maintenance and won’t expose themselves until the bike is pushed hard and actually tested. Not moseying around for 15 minutes and climbing a hill then calling it good.
40 miles shouldn’t do any appreciable damage to the bike, if it does it was faulty. It’s a single speed... Also I’d shout out the bike shop and the Fuji brand to anyone asking about the bike on the ride.
I have a single speed and the mechanical disk brakes are such a headache that I won’t even ride it anymore. I’m not going to go down that road again with a trash single speed. Is a feather the same thing as a kilo tt or is it worse?

Also, it's not about "damaging" the bike, it's about wear and dirt. A bike ridden for a few hours won't look new.

Do you test a computer at Best Buy for 2 hours before buying it? Do you test drive a car for 2 hours before buying it? You probably don't test drive it at all (you try a demo or another one in stock and you end up buying an identical one that you never drove).
The only bike I test-drove in my entire life was my previous bike that was purchased used - the seller let me take it out for a quick spin. The other ones, I bought, I rode.

40 miles is doing wear and tear on a bike and someone who is not good at riding and trying to keep up with a group ride is going to do damage and especially since you are literally riding it like you stole it. Some shops have rental programs for a situation that one might get in where they wish to ride in a group ride.
A novice rider who is not capable of riding with a group should not do so until they are ready to be careful, cautious and respectful of all the rules both written and unspoken and all of the people riding in that group. A group ride can be a lot of fun but it can also be dangerous with a novice rider trying to play with the big kids riding with broken equipment or equipment not suited to the ride or just intentionally being dangerous as the OP would do.

BTW, "relocate the levers" would really mean "remove the levers; unwrap the bars if the bike is built up; put on different levers; run new housing since the old housing won't reach; run new cables because the old cables are too short; adjust the brakes"
Then you decide you don't like it after thrashing it for 2 hours, and they have to undo all of that, or try to sell it to somebody else, set up differently from the as-new spec.
Just the changeover is a good 30+ minutes of work, plus $30 and up for levers, probably another $10-20 for the cables and housing.
All for the possibility that you MIGHT buy it, for $100 off MSRP? Ridden by a guy who's infamous on BF for crashing?

Not your "bro" from everything you post here I would certainly call you a novice rider or at least a novice at riding in a group. A courier (which I had a co-worker who claimed that because he did a few deliveries via bike) would not always be someone I want on a group ride unless they could comport themselves in a manner befitting the ride and the group. Also a trained professional? What are you Armstrong at the TDF in 2010 (he crashed 3 times).
