PD-R8000 pedals axles on the wrong pedal body

PD-R8000 pedals axles on the wrong pedal body
I can't post pictures because I haven't reached the 10 post minimum, but here is the issue.
I just got my brand new PD-R8000 pedals in and I think the axle is on the opposite pedal body then it should be.
On the dealer manual it says the left side pedal will have two notches on the rim on the axle. Well on my pedals, the two notches are on the drive side pedal.
I can't install the drive side pedal on the drive side, but I can install the drive side pedal on the non drive side. And vice versa for the other pedal.
Is it possible to just remove the axles and swap pedal bodies?

Just checking that when you install the pedals you are tightening the correct direction (it sounds like it)
they should screw in toward the front of the bike
or
drive side is righty tighty
non drive side is Lefty tighty
if this is opposite and the pedals are new I would would return them.

Forget about the notched. You can install the pedals the way you did, and answer the ONLY question that matters.
Are the pedal bodies oriented correctly?
Meaning, when right side up, accept a shoe facing forward.
If so, tighten them properly and go ride. If not, the best option is to return them.

If they install properly I wouldn't worry about it. If they don't then I would reach out to the seller. If you bought it from an authorized Shimano dealer they can reach out to Shimano and get replacements or figure out what happened and fix the issue. If you bought them from some random seller who isn't an authorized Shimano dealer you might consider seeing if you can return them get your money back and stay the heck away from them and find an authorized Shimano dealer and buy the correct pedals.

Over my decades in the Biz, I've seen more than a few wrong spindles in pedals. There's always the possibility of a spindle being switched at assembly. However the odds of 2 spindles getting switched this way, and then ending up in the same box are staggering.
My money is on all being OK, and the OP being confused about the markings.

So I got contacted by the seller and it was a batch defect. They gave me a full refund and let me keep the pedals. I just swapped the pedal bodies myself and it's all good now.
Sorry for the late update guys, and I appreciate all the responses. I'm just glad I wasn't crazy or stupid. In a way it was a nice problem because 1. what are the odds? 2. free pedals 3. was forced to learn how to "service" pedals
